Thank you for an extraordinary year! 🙏

This year, Sitework Studios celebrated our 20th anniversary, a milestone made possible by the trust and support of our incredible clients, colleagues, and partners.

Over the past two decades, it has been both a privilege and a profound honor to contribute to remarkable projects throughout our region. We are deeply grateful for the relationships built along the way.
In September, our hometown and neighboring communities were struck by Hurricane Helene, leaving a path of devastation. We are thankful our team made it through safely, and our hearts are with our neighbors who suffered immense loss.

The people of Western North Carolina are resilient, determined, and hopeful. Together, we are rebuilding.
This year we are expressing our gratitude to live and work in this extraordinary community through donations that support ongoing relief efforts for those impacted by the storm.

With heartfelt appreciation for your continued confidence and collaboration, we wish you and your loved ones a joyous holiday season. ⛄️

Friends, Colleagues and Clients,

We hope that you and your families are safe following Hurricane Helene and its aftermath. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the storm.

Sitework Studios has re-opened its office as of Monday, October 7th.

Please note that in-person office visits are not feasible at this time due to no water in our building.

All our staff are back on-line, although some will continue to work remotely. Response times may be delayed as we work to transition back to our normal operations.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in the wake of Helene.

We value each of our client relationships and are here to help you. Stay safe!

The new Valle Crucis Elementary School has been a long time coming, but the finish line is in sight! Sitework Studios is proud to serve as the Landscape Architectural consultant for Clark Nexsen on this inspiring project.

The buildings beautifully blend with the charm of Valle Crucis, and now it’s time for the landscape to come to life.

Our site design features a vibrant native plant palette and sustainable site elements including rain gardens, pollinator meadows, and enhanced wetlands.

We're excited to see it all come together as the Landscape Contractor, Ingle & Son begins their work.

Our clients on Reynolds Mountain were ready to say goodbye to their high-maintenance lawn and hello to a beautiful wildflower meadow! 🌼

We partnered with the talented Emily Sampson Patchwork Meadows. Her team’s process was impressive from start to finish.

The transformation began in February 2024 with the removal of the lawn and preparation of the land. By July, the meadow was in full bloom.

This sustainable approach to landscape management attracts pollinators, reduces stormwater runoff and is now bringing joy to our clients!

We couldn’t be happier with the results. Thank you, Emily, for making this vision come to life!

You can take the girl out of the landscape architecture office but you can’t take the L.A. out of the girl! ✈️

Suzanne always travels with an eye out for creative design and urban problem-solving.

Here's a glimpse at a few of the things that caught her eye on her recent trip to London and Amsterdam. 👀

Congratulations to the Asheville Museum of History for winning a prestigious Griffin Award.

A statement from the Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County:

“Each year PSABC presents awards to outstanding projects and individuals that further the goals of historic preservation in Asheville and Buncombe County. The winning projects are honored at an annual awards ceremony recognizing the owners and the skilled designers, craftsmen, and contractors that contributed to the project.

The Asheville Museum of History recently received an award in the “Research, Publication and Education” category for the historic restoration of their facilities and the complete redesign of the interpretive museum.

Our team assisted the museum with accessibility (ADA) improvements, lighting design, and site maintenance. Other key partners included: Legerton Architecture PA, Carolina Cornerstone Construction inc., and Berrier Select Landscapes, Inc.

We are honored to be one of the recipients of the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce's 2024 Sky High Growth Award.

Here is the tidbit about us that they shared at the event:

"Since its founding in 2004, Sitework Studios has cultivated a reputation for innovative design and strong community engagement. The firm, led by partners Steven Lee Johnson and Matthew Sprouse, excels in creating spaces that enhance community life, such as public parks, educational facilities, and urban gardens, with a focus on sustainability and aesthetic value. Sitework Studios is actively involved in various community boards and committees, reflecting its commitment to civic participation and influence in regional planning. The growth of the firm is demonstrated not only through the addition of key personnel in response to increasing project demands but also through its continuous involvement in significant community development projects, which bolster both local culture and environmental stewardship."

They forgot to mention what a 'serious' group we are... 😉

We've enjoyed viewing the installation of large solar canopies on the top floor of the Sears Alley Parking Deck, right behind our office on Patton Ave. Another similar installation was just completed at the County's College Street Parking Deck a few blocks away.

As part of the County's Strategic Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, these large solar installations are helping the County reach its goal of having 100% renewable energy for county operations by 2030! ☀️

Our Lunch-and-Learn series is always a treat, and March was no exception.

Our last session was a watercolor lesson from our very own Heather Brown. Heather brought supplies, a tutorial, and inspiration to the office.

Thank you Heather for such a beautiful day of creativity and team building!

Please join us in congratulating Amy Fahmy on her retirement!

Amy has graced us with her wonderful talents, spirit, and plant knowledge for the last 12 years. We will miss her terribly, but are grateful for the countless contributions she made while at Sitework Studios and in our community.

Amy is a dynamic individual with a giving heart who brings a smile to everyone she works with. All of us at Sitework Studios wish her the very best as she embarks on the next stage of life.

We are sure you will find her busier than ever in her garden, on the trails, and forever teaching people about the beauty of landscapes.

If you live in Western NC, winter can feel long, where the days are short, gray and cold.

The first emergence of life in the Southern Appalachian mountains happens with the early wildflower ephemerals that announce the coming of spring. It is wonderful to live and work in a place where you can walk a trail, drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, or visit your favorite local garden to see the emergence of nature after a long winter sleep...

As we enter this Easter weekend, we encourage everyone to get out there - enjoy what our beautiful mountains have to offer - take it slow and notice the little things coming to life. 🌱
