Great news for WNC! Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy (SAHC) Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy 🌿 recently accepted the donation of 70 acres along the Roan Massif in Mitchell County. This beautiful forested property borders Pisgah National Forest and protects pristine trout waters, important wildlife habitat, and scenic views from the Appalachian Trail.
With more than 100,000 acres protected, SAHC continues its important work preserving the natural beauty and resources of our Southern Appalachian mountains.
And right now, new and increased donations to SAHC are being matched up to $100,000!

It's all beginning to come together on Church Street in Black Mountain!
These beautiful reclaimed tin ceiling pieces, redesigned and reimagined by our own Dara DeBoer-Schwalje bring such wonderful old-world charm and character to the space. Dara Deboer-Schwalje-Town and Mountain Realty We can't wait to see the talented finish carpenter Ted McCarthy @ FJM III Enterprises [email protected] get started on the rustic wooden shelves that will fit right in with the character of the space.
Behind all the detail is a team effort! Project Manager Stefen is wrangling the subcontractors, keeping things moving along and making sure all the pieces come together.

Applications are open for Cohort 15 of ScaleUp WNC, Mountain BizWorks' program for Western North Carolina business owners ready to scale.

Here's what's included:
- A kickoff event and eight in-person core sessions
- 10 hours of one-on-one technical assistance and mentoring
- A cohort of fellow WNC founders

Sessions run March through June. Applications are due Jan. 14, 2027.

Exciting progress at 104 Church Street in Black Mountain.
Ridge Restaurant Equipment is on site working on the commercial kitchen ventilation system, including terminating the rooftop exhaust fan.... making the final connections that bring the system together.
Just one of the many moving parts of a restaurant buildout, and another step toward getting this new space ready for business!

It’s not all hammers, demolition and digging trenches. It takes a lot to keep a local construction company moving, planning, estimating, scheduling, problem solving, documentation, communication…and sometimes meetings around the table.
Thankfully, we have the BEST team to do it! 💜

$11.2 million being invested back into our community.
The Buncombe County TDA recently approved $11.2 million in LIFT Fund investments for 10 local capital projects across the county.
Funded through occupancy tax revenue from overnight visitors, these investments will support projects across Asheville, Black Mountain and Buncombe County — from infrastructure and public spaces to arts, cultural and community facilities.

Intrinsic in the community! We joined today’s BCTDA meeting at Explore Asheville to hear the latest on tourism and what’s ahead for our region.
With fall travel indicators looking positive, more visitors arriving by car, and continued efforts to attract conferences and other high-value visits, it’s encouraging news for the many local businesses that make Asheville, Asheville. Two years after Helene, we’re reminded of just how much rebuilding has happened across WNC — rebuilding in all ways: hope, strength, hearts and community, as well as physical structures.
We’re grateful to have played a small part in helping local businesses repair, rebuild, reopen and move forward.
There’s still a lot of work to be done, but today we celebrate the resilience of our neighbors and the people who showed up and helped bring lives and spaces back to life. 💜
