🌟Project Spotlight: "A Home of Their Own"🌟

✨Transforming their historic bed-and-breakfast into the private home of their dreams, these returning clients sought the team’s help to reimagine their second-floor guest rooms into a primary suite of their own.

✨Reworking the floorplan of the upstairs space brought a pop of personality to the former guest quarters — now a primary bedroom, closet and en suite bath for the owners. The new bath pairs Waterworks plumbing fixtures with dramatic Calacatta Monet stone slabs from International Stone Distributor installed by Rockstar, in the shower and along the bath backsplash. A custom vanity designed by the homeowner and crafted by Carolina Farm Table brings a personal touch to the space.

✨The renovation also included updates to a second bedroom with its own en suite bath, new grasscloth and lighting in the grand stair area and a fresh coat of Tonester paint throughout the home, adding a layer of texture and color to the refreshed interiors.

📜 History enthusiasts: You will love this one.

The team has been refurbishing a historic greenhouse at a private property. As they worked to preserve the structure and replicate what needs to be replaced, they discovered a date stamped into the metal framing: "PATENTED SEPT 21 1926."

After some digging, the team found the original patent paperwork filed by inventor T. Edward King of Hitchings & Co. Today marks 100 years to the day that the patent was published!

The patent was for a new design to improve the sill-plate for topping the concrete side walls of greenhouses. Upon further inspection of the framing, the team discovered other stamps by Hitchings & Co., the architectural firm and builder that was also involved in the design and construction of the Biltmore Estate greenhouses. (See the final image for the original architectural drawing for Biltmore by Richard Morris Hunt and Hitchings & Co.) More of Hitchings & Co.'s design catalog can be found in the New York Botanical Garden archive library.

The team also found an original "Stanley Sweetheart" hinge. This iconic antique architectural door hardware, produced by The Stanley Works (now Stanley Black & Decker) between 1920 and 1934, features distinctive "SW" initials within a heart and was highly sought-after during its production.

This project has been a goldmine of historical discoveries! We love this work.

The crew is ready for the long weekend after a week of framing progress 👷 For this deck and sunroom addition, diagonal knee braces were used for sway and lateral support, structural fasteners were added at the house to attach the deck, and the roof—with vaulted ceiling and skylights—is beginning to take shape. 🛠️ Happy Labor Day, friends!

📣 Employee Spotlight: Yann Kay, Carpenter
The youngest carpenter on the team, Yann makes up for his age with his old soul and traditional work ethic. After studying construction management at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, he found his calling in carpentry and put his skills to the test at The Hands of Sean Perry immediately after graduation. With THOSP is where he fell in love with the ins and outs of the trade, and we're thankful to have his passion for woodcraft on our team.

A look back at this special project: A newly purchased property, customized and updated to incorporate the new homeowners' style. Renovation highlights include a stunning new focal wall in the basement den, a custom-designed fireplace façade with built-in bookcases, a new en suite bath along with existing bathroom renovations, and updated bedrooms. Outside, the entryway was given a facelift—plus the team built a brand-new detached garage on the property. This was quite the transformation. 🌟
