I had someone ask what was happening on their tomato plants, see photo below.

This is a tomato hornworm (the green caterpillar 🐛) and they will devastate a tomato plant quickly. They like to camouflage so if you see leaves suddenly gone check the stems and you may find these guys hiding in plain sight.

The white things are parasitic wasp larvae that use the caterpillar as a host, and the wasps are good for your habitat.

You can choose to relocate the caterpillar situation and let the wasps continue, just keep it away from your veg gardens.

Took my own advice to take a break and enjoy this beautiful day. I felt antsy, unfocused and frustrated but committed to completing my bookwork/computer work to check the ‘done’ box.

Instead I thought ‘what will make me feel better, and make my dog stop pestering me’. Oh yeah, took my own advice and went outside for a walk on the greenway by New Belgium Asheville with my girl. 🐾👟🌱

And you know what, we both came home happier, relaxed and able to focus.

We often get asked about the proper way to cut back or ‘deadhead’ plants for continued flowering.

We always recommend pruning above a node or bud to encourage flowering.
