Kevin Hunstad was born and raised in California, having lived on the Central Coast since 1963. As one of the most experienced and professional home builders in the area for over 25 years, he has built approximately 300 homes. As a father of five and having close ties to the community, he is proud that much success of Hunstad Homes has been based on referrals and repeat clients, with many becoming great friends. From dirt to dreams. 🏡

Progress is underway on our Canyon Way Spec home in Arroyo Grande!

This week, we’ve completed the trenching and are setting forms and installing footing rebar. Next up, the plumbers will be on site as we continue moving this project from a set of plans to a finished home.

It’s always exciting to watch a build take shape from the ground up. What starts as a vacant lot quickly becomes the foundation for someone’s future home.

🔨🏡🏠 GROUNDBREAKING ON CAMINO MARIPOSA
Every home starts right here — a laser level, string lines, and a whole lot of dirt.

We’re underway on our Nipomo project: a main house and an ADU, side by side on this beautiful piece of property. Footings are dug, rough plumbing is in for the main house, and we’re about to start grading for the ADU pad.

It doesn’t look like much yet, but this is where the whole build gets its bones — every footing placed exactly where the plans call for it, before a single wall goes up.

🏗️ FROM STUDS TO STUNNING 🏗️

Swipe through to see where this Grover Beach project stands today — and where it’s headed.

This isn’t your average remodel. We’re talking a full-scale transformation: framing going up, walls coming down, and an entirely new footprint taking shape. Right now it’s exposed studs, insulation, and a whole lot of sawdust. But the vision? A great room built around a linear fireplace and 75” TV wall, a bright open kitchen with a huge island for gathering, and a primary suite with a custom double-door entry into the bath.
Every measurement, every sightline, every detail is being planned before a single sheet of drywall goes up — that’s how we make sure the “after” actually delivers on the “before.”

This is the part of the process most people never see. We think it’s the coolest part.

We’re building a spec house and want your take on the kitchen layout.

There will be two islands — a smaller prep island and a large main island — plus a sink already planned at the wall near the stove.

The question: should the island also have a sink?
