Kid’s Bus Stop Bench

Built this little bench as a birthday gift for a friend’s son who’s just starting school. The legs are cedar, and the seat and backrest are black locust — sturdy enough to handle plenty of mornings at the bus stop.

It measures about 4 feet wide, 32 inches tall, and the seat is just the right size for a kid waiting with their backpack. Simple, strong, and made to last.

Final Reveal – Gothic Bookshelf

Finished in deep black with textured grey brickwork sides, this piece brings the gothic vibe to life. The tall tower backs are blacked out with cord pass-throughs for function and clean design.

Kiln dried White oak slabs like these don’t come around often ten at approximately 40” wide, 2.5–3” thick, and 11–12 ft long, plus one that narrows to about 20”. I’ll be using the tapered piece for a headboard, but the rest are open for custom projects. What would you build with them?

🌳 Multi-Species Panels 🌳

Mixing different wood species in one panel adds amazing contrast. In this build, walnut and maple pair beautifully the dark, rich walnut highlights the light, golden maple.

Other great combos: walnut & purple heart, cherry & maple, or ash & walnut. Each pairing brings out the best in both woods.

Gothic Bookshelf Progress

This custom build is getting close to the finish line! Inspired by gothic architecture, it features brickwork details and tall tower sides. Once finished in deep black with grey grout lines, the design will really come to life.

These Viking-style Adirondack chairs are made from solid white oak and finished with pure tung oil to bring out the natural beauty and durability of the wood.

They’re not your average Adirondacks — this design allows them to fit together in one configuration for sitting, and in another for easy storage and transport. Strong, simple, and timeless.

🍂 Cookie Slab vs. Live Edge Slab 🍂

When you’re looking at unique wood furniture, you’ll often hear the terms cookie slab and live edge slab but what’s the difference?

🔘 Cookie Slab
Think of a “cookie” like a cross-section of a tree trunk. It’s cut horizontally across the log, almost like slicing a giant wooden cookie. You’ll see the tree’s full growth rings in a circular or oval pattern, giving each piece a bold, natural look. These make incredible statement tables, end tables, or display pieces because they showcase the tree’s entire life story in one slice.

🌲 Live Edge Slab
A live edge slab is cut lengthwise down the log. Instead of circles, you get long flowing grain lines that run the length of the board, plus the natural contours of the tree’s outer edge. The “live edge” is the outer, untouched line of the tree, bark and all, preserved to highlight its natural shape. These are perfect for dining tables, desks, and bar tops where you want length and natural beauty.

👉 The Big Difference:

Cookie = cross-cut (round/oval, rings visible).
Live Edge = lengthwise cut (long grain, natural tree outline).
