MTFA Architecture

MTFA Architecture We shape culture, commerce, and community through creative design solutions.

Through forming working relationships centered on trust, integrity and respect, MTFA Architecture builds consensus around appropriate design drivers that facilitate lasting solutions. We guide toward responsible and sustainable growth while creating value for our clients. Our work forms important links to its context by being environmentally sustainable and socially formative. The resulting archit

ecture is clear, creative and beautiful - both timely and timeless. We know design excellence hinges not only on sound ideas but also on technical proficiency and constructible quality. Our ability to successfully combine these invaluable elements continues to lead to award winning work ranging from small additions to multi-million dollar master plans. Because, ultimately, we believe that people need and deserve more than shelter – they need to be inspired and cared for through design.

We were onsite last week for the opening ceremony of the Cannon House Office Building and the excitement is real. This multi-phased total building rehabilitation modernized original architect Carrere & Hastings' federal landmark that's preserved for generations to come. For more than a decade, the careful conservation treatment of every crack, spall, and stain returned this beaux-arts beauty to its intended shine. Congratulations to the Architect of the Capitol, the design team, and the construction team on a successful project. 120 years down. 120 more to go.

The ground has been blessed — and we're building something special.

On Sunday, the St. Peter School, Capitol Hill community gathered on Capitol Hill to celebrate the start of an exciting new chapter: a modernization and expansion that will transform their beloved school for generations of students to come.

MTFA is deeply honored to serve as the architect on this project — one that's close to our hearts. The project will bring to life a new chapel, a soaring multipurpose space big enough for school wide gatherings, dedicated arts and music classrooms, brand-new Pre-K and Kindergarten spaces, and meaningful upgrades that make the building more welcoming and accessible to all.

The best is yet to come for St. Peter School.

MTFA is proud to be the project architect on a truly groundbreaking project - literally!

This week, Goodwill of Greater Washington and Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) broke ground on a first-of-its-kind redevelopment at 10 South Glebe Road in Arlington, VA. The project will bring 128 affordable family apartments, a modernized Goodwill flagship store, an onsite childcare center, approximately 30 new jobs, and the first segment of the Arlington Blvd Multi-Use Trail - all on one site.

This is the first co-location of Goodwill and affordable housing in the nation, and we couldn't be more honored to play a role in making it a reality for the families who will call it home.

PROJECT UPDATE:
Gallaudet University’s Research & Innovation Hub

Our work on the Merril Learning Center project is in progress. Selective demolition is paving the way for a sustainable and innovative space that fosters collaboration and learning—preserving the building’s significance while ensuring its functionality for future generations. MTFA has collaborated closely with Gallaudet University and Fletcher Consulting, among others, to adaptively reuse this significant campus asset that will enhance the overall campus experience for students and faculty. Upper levels of the building will be removed and replaced with a welcoming, landscaped plaza and a light-filled atrium. Lower levels will undergo renovation and revitalization, creating a modern, engaging learning space. Stay tuned for more updates!
