An addition should feel like it was always meant to be there.
At the O’Brien Residence, the goal went beyond simply adding square footage. The new one-story addition was designed to reorganize the main level while creating a much stronger relationship between the house, the sunroom, and the outdoor living areas.
By extending the home outward, we were able to create a more generous family room and establish larger openings toward the patio and screened porch — bringing more natural light into the interior and allowing the living spaces to connect directly with the landscape.
Just as important was making sure the addition respected the character of the original home. Rather than reading as a separate volume, the new work becomes part of a continuous sequence of spaces that moves naturally from the interior to the outdoors.
Thoughtful expansion. Better flow. A stronger connection to the way the family actually lives.
