Every time we open one of these bait stations, it’s a possible adventure.

Today’s findings:

✅ Black widow spider
✅ Rodent activity
✅ A reminder that nature never misses an opportunity to move in

Rodent bait stations aren’t a “set it and forget it” solution. They need to be checked regularly to make sure they’re doing their job and not becoming an Airbnb for every creepy-crawly in the neighborhood.

We’ve been getting a lot of calls about these lately. This is an American cockroach (also known as a palmetto bug), and the recent rain and humidity have them much more active than usual.

A few things to know:

✅ They love hanging around gutters and downspouts, especially when tree limbs are touching the house.

✅ Their preferred habitat is tree holes and decaying wood, but they’ll gladly move into wall voids, attics, crawlspaces, and other sheltered areas around your home.

✅ And yes… they fly. 😳

If you’re seeing more of them around your property, it may be time for an inspection and treatment before they start finding their way inside.

But that wasn’t always the case.

It seems like forever ago that Memphis was covered in ice, but this video popped up in our memories and gave us a good laugh! ❄️🪿

This guy found an overflowing dumpster and apparently decided it was an all-you-can-eat buffet. During tough weather, rodents aren’t the only critters looking for a free meal!

A friendly reminder to keep trash inside closed receptacles and dumpsters with lids secured. Proper waste management helps discourage unwanted wildlife, rodents, and other opportunistic diners from making themselves at home around your property.

Remember: if it’s easy to access, something will probably try to eat it! 😂

🚨 Public Service Announcement: Snake Activity Is Extremely High Right Now 🚨

Please be extra cautious around your property, especially near landscaping, wood lines, pools, outdoor kitchens, sheds, and other areas where snakes may seek shelter.

This appears to be a cottonmouth (water moccasin) and was spotted yesterday underneath an outdoor kitchen at a customer’s home in Collierville. Thankfully, it eventually moved away from the structure… only to take an unexpected detour into the swimming pool! Fortunately, after a few minutes, it made its way out and headed back toward the woods where it belonged.

While most snakes you encounter are non-venomous and play an important role in our ecosystem, there are a few venomous species in our area that require extra caution. The best approach is to keep your distance and never attempt to handle a snake.

Today’s discovery? A skull peeking out from behind a block like it was waiting for us to arrive. 😳

Meanwhile, I got the full crawlspace makeover package: dirt, sweat, cobwebs, and questions nobody wants answered.
