22 years ago tonight, I decided not go to my scheduled work the next day. It would have been in NYC. Far enough away from the towers, but close enough. I remember being at work that day, in a basement when the homeowner came down to tell us about the attack on the US. It was a solemn day to say the least. I made it back to that job a few weeks later. Me and my truck were searched every time I went back there on a weekly basis. Where I was working, was the route the police and ambulances took the deceased. I remember going to the window to watch the procession, so sad, scary. I went to visit ground zero about 6 weeks later, I could still see smoke rising from the destruction, smell of death. So many gov't agencies everywhere. Made it through 2 checkpoints, but not the final one. As I was walking towards it, the people walking away, mouths open wide, eyes in awe. Well, I'll bet I had that same expression walking away too. Yes, I'll never forget for so many reasons
