Say hello to Tori, our Service Manager! She arrived at Horizon Commercial Pools in October 2025 after previously being part Hastings Water Works from 2016 - 2022.

Here's a little more about her:
Favorite fuel: A quad coffee on ice with oat milk and caramel syrup.

Dream job swap: Spending the day in the warehouse driving the tow motor and even plowing the parking lot in the winter.

Favorite local activity: Watching a Guardians game at Progressive Field.

Most rewarding part of her job: Receiving great customer feedback and passing those compliments along to our technicians.

Hidden talent: She's a Mario Kart pro!

Outside of work: Reading, gardening, beach trips, Cavs and Guardians games, and spending time with her dogs.

Fall is when the biggest work at commercial aquatic facilities actually gets done: tile, coping, grouting, equipment room overhauls, deck resurfacing. But it only happens if the quote is signed in time.

When Did Your UV Bulb Last Get Replaced?

If you're not sure, it's probably time. Bulbs, quartz sleeves, and seals should all be replaced every 12 to 18 months to keep your UV system doing what it was installed to do: enhance water quality and reduce chemical demand. Skip a cycle and your UV becomes decorative, a pretty light show with no results.

The good news: off season is the ideal window to handle it. And while we're in there, we can knock out preventative heater maintenance in the same visit, the other service that quietly pays for itself before the next season opens.

Preventative heater maintenance covers:
✔️ Full component inspection: heat exchanger, burners, burner tray, bypass valve
✔️ Cleaning of interior and exterior heat exchanger surfaces
✔️ Efficiency verification (a clean burner uses less gas)
✔️ Early detection of anything that would otherwise fail mid season

Meet Dustin Bigelow!

Dustin is a Supervisor in our Finishing Division, where he oversees job quality and progress, manages crews, works in the field, and helps coordinate daily schedules with our project management team.

Dustin has been in the industry since April 2012 and joined Horizon through the Northern Pool acquisition. One of his favorite parts of the job is helping newer team members learn the trade and watching the entire crew come together to deliver outstanding results.

"Seeing newer guys catch on to our processes, understanding the why and the how, and seeing everything come together as a cohesive team in the field creating a beautiful final result."

What fuels his workday? Coffee... and compliments from the guys on how great he looks or smells.

Fun Fact: Dustin has recently developed a passion for making pizza.

When he's not at work, you'll find him spending time with family, biking with his kids, watching sports, or enjoying some video games.

Six Weeks Out: Your 4-Step Pre-Closing Checklist

If you scheduled your closing back in July, nice work. If you didn't, this is your reminder to get on the schedule today. Either way, the work that determines how smooth your spring opening feels is the work you do in August.

Here's what to handle before September:

1️⃣ Inspect the winter cover. Tears, broken straps, and failed seams don't heal in storage. Repair or replace now, not in October.
2️⃣ Fix what's still broken. Anything on your "we'll deal with it later" list needs to be handled before shutdown. A small issue in August is a much bigger, more expensive one in April.
3️⃣ Stock final run chemicals. Order enough to make it through the last weeks of operation, and ask us to pick up your empties on your last chemical delivery of the season.
4️⃣ Flag equipment for service. Anything that needs to be drained, pulled, or serviced should go on the closing checklist now, not on the day.
