That $29 service call might not be the bargain you think it is.
More and more, small and family-owned plumbing companies are being bought by massive private equity companies. The business model can change from “How do we fix your problem?” to “How much can we sell you today?”
At Jimmy's Plumbing, we want homeowners to know what to watch for.

What is actually wrong? What needs to be repaired? What is optional?
📋 GET AN ESTIMATE.
Ask for the price and a description of the work before you approve anything.
🚩 BEWARE OF PRESSURE.
If you're being pushed to sign something immediately or approve thousands of dollars in work before you've had time to understand the problem, slow down.
💰 BE CAREFUL WITH $29 DISPATCH OR $49 DRAIN CLEANING SPECIALS.
Think about it: a legitimate plumbing company has to cover fuel, insurance, licensing, equipment, vehicle expenses, wages, and more just to get a properly equipped truck and plumber to your driveway.
So how can someone realistically do all that for $29?
Because sometimes they're not selling a $29 service — they're buying an opportunity to get inside your home.
Once they're there, some companies measure technicians by their “average ticket” — how much revenue they generate per call. When compensation is tied heavily to sales, the incentive can become less about repairing the problem and more about selling additional work.
A $150 toilet repair is one thing.
A $6,000 recommendation for equipment or additional work is another.
You deserve to know the difference.
And remember: the biggest logo, flashiest commercial, or shiniest van doesn't automatically mean the best plumber.
