✳️ From bold, colorful foliage to unusual shapes and stunning blooms, the bromeliad family is full of surprises.

Got a favorite? Yeah - we know it’s hard to pick just one.

Did you know… 🤔

🌸 What looks like a big, colorful flower often isn’t the flower at all! In many bromeliads, the showy color comes from modified leaves called bracts, while the actual flowers can be much smaller.

👶 Many bromeliads produce “pups”—baby plants that grow around the mother plant and can eventually become plants of their own.

👀 Take a look inside our “Grocery Store.” This is the last greenhouse our orchids go through before they ship to stores. We bring them here in bud to start the opening process.

How often can a Phalaenopsis orchid bloom?

Loved for their long-lasting flowers, it is relatively easy to get them to bloom once or even twice a year, with each bloom cycle lasting several weeks to a few months.

After the flowers fade, don’t assume the show is over! Give your orchid plenty of bright, indirect light, proper watering and regular feeding to help it recharge for its next blooming cycle.

Also, a slight drop in nighttime temperatures can help encourage a mature Phalaenopsis to develop a new flower spike. So bring it on, Fall; we're ready for a temperature drop, and so are our plants.

Why are bromeliads so incredibly colorful?

Bromeliads can put on a show in shades of red, pink, orange, yellow, purple, green and even blue—but the colorful part you’re admiring isn’t always the flower!

**Bracts** – Many bromeliads develop brightly colored modified leaves surrounding their flowers. These can stay colorful much longer than the blooms themselves.

**Foliage** – Some varieties are grown for their leaves, which can be striped, spotted, banded or splashed with multiple colors.

**Flowers** – Look closely! The true flowers often emerge from the colorful center or bracts and may be tiny, delicate and a completely different color.

With thousands of species, cultivars and hybrids, the bromeliad family offers an incredible range of colors, patterns, shapes and textures.

Next time you see a colorful bromeliad, take a closer look—are you admiring the flower, the bracts or the foliage?
