Ruff Roofers recently completed the gymnasium roof replacement at Our Lady of Victory on Wilkens Avenue in Baltimore.

The gymnasium is an important gathering place for parishioners, athletic programs, and community activities. Completing its roof required coordination, safe site management, and close attention to the details necessary to deliver lasting protection.

PROJECT PROFILE | THE ENGINEERS CLUB OF BALTIMORE

There may not be a more fitting Baltimore project for a construction company than this one.

Ruff Roofers recently completed roofing work at the Garrett-Jacobs Mansion, home of The Engineering Society of Baltimore and The Engineers Club in Mount Vernon.

The building itself has quite a story.

The Garrett-Jacobs Mansion evolved from a series of 19th-century rowhouses into one of Baltimore’s most impressive Gilded Age residences. Its development involved some of the most notable architectural talent of the era, including Stanford White and John Russell Pope, and today the 40-room mansion remains a distinctive part of Mount Vernon’s architectural landscape.

But what makes this project particularly meaningful is who calls the building home.

The Engineers Club of Baltimore was founded in 1905, in the period immediately following the Great Baltimore Fire, when engineers were playing an essential role in rebuilding and modernizing the city. For more than a century, the organization has provided a place for engineers, contractors, architects, business leaders and other professionals responsible for shaping Baltimore’s built environment to meet, collaborate and exchange ideas.

That makes completing a project here a little different for us.

Our industry is represented inside these walls. The conversations, relationships and ideas developed here have influenced buildings and infrastructure throughout the Baltimore region—and many of the professionals who have called the Club home understand firsthand what it takes to successfully execute a construction project.

We're proud that Ruff Roofers now has a small place in the continuing story of this remarkable Baltimore institution.

When Patient Care Can’t Pause, Construction Must Adapt.

Ruff Roofers recently completed the roof replacement over the Primary Care and Endoscopy Centers at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center—a project that required careful planning, close coordination, and a schedule built entirely around the hospital’s critical operations.

The demolition phase was performed at night to minimize noise and vibration traveling through the concrete roof deck into occupied areas below. With active endoscopy procedures, diagnostic imaging equipment, and emergency medical services operating within the building, protecting patients, medical personnel, and sensitive equipment remained the highest priority.

Once the demolition was complete, our crews moved through the installation methodically—preparing the substrate, installing the new roof system in manageable sections, and completing the perimeter, flashing, and drainage details necessary for long-term performance.

Healthcare roofing requires more than technical expertise. It demands an understanding of the environment beneath the roof and the flexibility to perform the work when it is safest for patients and staff.

PROJECT PROFILE | GARDEN CONDOS AT MCDONOGH TOWNSHIP

For condominium communities, a successful roofing project isn’t measured by the roof alone—it’s measured by how well the community continues to function while the work is being completed.

Ruff Roofers completed the Garden Condos at McDonogh Township, a fully occupied condominium community where resident safety, communication, accessibility, and minimizing disruption were priorities throughout the project.

For property managers and condominium boards, major exterior projects can create concerns well beyond construction itself. Where will materials be staged? How will residents access their homes? How will vehicle and pedestrian traffic be managed? What happens when unexpected conditions arise?

Those details require planning before crews ever arrive on site.

Throughout the project, our team coordinated closely around the needs of the occupied community, carefully managing staging, deliveries, equipment, pedestrian access, and daily work areas. The goal was simple: complete the work safely and efficiently while allowing residents to continue their normal routines with as little impact as possible.

The project was successfully completed with minimal disruption to residents and a strong focus on safety from mobilization through final cleanup.

Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor a roof replacement should keep the mail from getting through.

Ruff Roofers completed the roof replacement at the United States Postal Service facility in Owings Mills, Maryland, helping protect a building that plays an important role in keeping mail and packages moving throughout the community.

Working on an active postal facility requires careful coordination. Daily operations don't stop because roofing work is underway, so our team focused on maintaining safe access, minimizing disruption, and keeping the facility fully operational throughout the project.

For more than 85 years, Ruff Roofers has built its reputation on tackling projects where safety, scheduling, and operational continuity matter just as much as the finished roof.

When the USPS needed to keep the mail moving, Ruff Roofers helped make sure the roof didn't get in the way.

Another project wrapped up in Baltimore.

This project at Hirsch Electric’s headquarters on Dundalk Avenue started during the winter and recently reached completion. It’s especially rewarding to finish a project for a company that has been part of Baltimore’s construction industry for decades.

Hirsch Electric’s roots in the area go back to 1979, when Joseph Hirsch founded Joseph J. Hirsch, Inc. The company became Hirsch Electric, LLC in 2001 and has since transitioned to second-generation ownership, growing into a team of more than 200 people and one of the region’s established commercial electrical contractors.

From its Baltimore headquarters, Hirsch has helped power some recognizable projects throughout Maryland, including Under Armour’s corporate headquarters, McCormick & Company’s world headquarters, Children’s National Hospital, Frederick High School, and numerous projects throughout Baltimore.

From wintery conditions to the finished product, we’re proud of how this one came together and grateful for the opportunity to work on a building occupied by a company with such deep roots in our local construction community.

A New Chapter for a Baltimore Landmark

Ruff Roofers is proud to announce the recent completion of the roof restoration at Beacon House Square, located on Old Frederick Road in Baltimore.

Originally home to St. Joseph’s Monastery School, this property has been part of the Baltimore community for more than 130 years. Now, the historic complex is taking on an entirely new purpose as Beacon House Square, providing supportive housing and services to the community.

For our team, working on a property with this much history brings a unique responsibility. Restoring the roofs required bringing modern roofing expertise to buildings constructed in another era—all while respecting the character and longevity of the structures themselves.

It’s rewarding to know that the work completed by our crews will play a role in keeping these buildings in service as they begin an important new chapter.
