Energy efficiency, taken all the way. ⚡️ This full interior-and-exterior remodel in the Santa Cruz Mountains meant removing the entire front of the home (and part of the back) to expand it — plus extensive structural work to fix rot and undersized framing. In the end, no substrate went untouched. What went back in: spray-foam insulation, low-emissions glass, metal roofing, solar electric + solar hot water, and a four-zone audio and home theater setup.

A bare dirt lot, held for years, finally given the home it deserved. ✨ For a design-conscious client, this ground-up build became the ultimate blank canvas — floating staircase, oversized picture windows, and a 352 sq ft second-floor deck to take it all in. Getting utilities to the site took some serious public-works muscle, but the result speaks for itself.

Proof that a smart budget builds beautiful things. 🖤 One of Pete's all-time favorites — three simple cubed volumes that lock together into a striking, efficient layout. Concrete floors soak up passive solar through bi-fold doors, the whole envelope is super-insulated, and the siding is sustainably cut rosewood (named for its scent, not its color).

Built in 1976, reborn from the framing up. 🏡 New owners wanted more space and more light — so we took it down to the studs, reconfigured the interior, and added a second story over the garage. The vaulted kitchen went from cramped and dark to bright and open, and a clever stair turret pulls cool fresh air through the whole home.
