Another job where a simple request turned into a little more problem-solving!

This customer needed five doors trimmed after having new carpet installed. The old hollow-core doors had started splintering and delaminating on the bottoms as the carpet grabbed the veneer. After trimming about 5/8" off each door, most of the damage disappeared. A few spots needed some glue and repair, but once everything was finished, all five doors went back in looking great and operating perfectly.

She also wanted to replace her dining room light with a 45-pound chandelier. The existing fixture was mounted to a plastic box, which wasn't rated for that kind of weight. Thankfully, the box was attached to a stud, so I was able to install a properly rated metal box and safely mount the new chandelier.

The customer was extremely happy with the results and even left Fixed by Frank a 5-star review!

Sometimes it’s the little upgrades that make a big difference.

This customer wanted a dedicated receptacle installed behind a future TV in his basement game room. We tapped into an existing receptacle, fished the wiring through the wall, cut in an old work box, and installed the new receptacle.

A simple installation that means no extension cords or exposed wires when the new TV goes up.

Project Complete: Ceiling Repair & New Ceiling Fan

Last time, we showed you this project while it was still in progress. Today, we put on the final coat of mud, sanded everything smooth, and then added the swirl finish to blend the repaired areas into the existing ceiling.

Once the finish dried, we primed the ceiling and installed the new paddle fan. The owner will take care of painting the ceiling its final color.

Another repair completed from start to finish, with the details taken care of along the way.

Have to give Victor some credit on this one. After the driveway was sealed, the faded and rusty 6’ x 6’ steel plate over the well really stood out. Victor noticed it himself and decided he wanted to take care of it.

After work, and even with the heat we’ve been having, he handled the entire project on his own — sanded the steel, cleaned it with mineral spirits, cut everything in with a brush, and rolled on two coats of Rust-Oleum Hunter Green. And of course, being Victor, he meticulously taped the entire perimeter so there was absolutely no chance of getting green paint on my freshly sealed driveway. I’m pretty sure he spent almost as much time making that painter’s tape perfect as he did painting the plate! 😂

What I’m most proud of is that he saw something that needed done, took the initiative, and handled it from start to finish without any help from me. It turned out really well, and I have to give credit where credit is due. Like father, like son — when it comes to being meticulous, I think he gets that from me! 😂👍

This project is still underway, but we wanted to give you a look at what’s happening behind the scenes.

We had to remove a damaged section of ceiling and open it up to properly repair the area. While we were in there, we also replaced the existing ceiling fan box with a heavy-duty fan-rated box that meets current code requirements, using the original wiring.

The first coats of mud are now on, and we’re working on feathering the repair out several feet so it will blend properly with the surrounding ceiling. Once everything is finished, we’ll be applying a brush finish to complete the look.

And yes, there will be a new paddle fan going in the center of the room!

The Drip Is Finally Gone

Sometimes a job sounds pretty simple on paper. Move the old bathtub faucet, repair and reinstall the leaky faucet and diverter valve, put all the handles back on, and call it done.

What sounds like a quick fix ended up being about five hours of work to get everything right.

Sometimes a small leak means you have to open up a wall to get to the problem.

For this customer, the priority was simple: find the leak, make the repair, and get everything back together. We opened the wall to access the plumbing, made the repair, patched the area, matched the existing stipple finish, and gave it a fresh coat of paint. We also reinstalled the vanity to finish everything off.

Another project where a little attention to detail made a big difference.

This customer had several areas in their home that had been damaged by leaks and years of wear. The kitchen and front door vestibule had multiple cracks and holes caused by previous water intrusion from roof leaks. After the roof was repaired, we came in and properly patched, repaired, and finished those areas so they were ready for a fresh coat of paint.

The upstairs bedroom near the chimney needed more extensive repairs. The damaged ceiling area had to be cut out, framed, new drywall installed, plastered, and finish coated to restore it back to a smooth, clean surface.

Everything was finished with primer, and the customer will take care of the final paint color to complete the transformation.
