Jesus was looking out for me today. I almost got tagged by a copperhead while mowing, and I’m thankful God gave me the awareness to see it before it was too late. Definitely a reminder that He’s watching over me, even in the moments I don’t realize I need Him. Thank You, Jesus.

Ran across a beautiful North Carolina corn snake today! Some refer to it as a "chicken snake". These are in the rat snake family ,and a redheaded cousin to the black rat snake. This one was dark in color, but very close to shedding. When it does it will reveal a bright orange/red and yellow pattern. A lot of people notice the orange and red pattern on top, but the belly is one of the coolest parts—those bold black-and-white checkerboard colors look almost like it was painted on. Easy way to tell one of these harmless snakes apart, and a reminder that nature puts details in places most people never think to look.

🐍 Snake ID: Ringneck Snake

Super cool find today! I came across a small, harmless beauty — the ringneck snake (Diadophis punctatus).

How to recognize it: • Dark gray to black body
• Distinct yellow/orange ring around the neck
• Bright orange or red belly (sometimes with small spots)
• Usually small — around 10–15 inches

Good news:
These guys are non-venomous and actually beneficial. They help control pests like insects, slugs, and small critters.

They’re secretive and often found under logs, rocks, or leaf litter — so if you see one, you got lucky.

As always, give wildlife space and let them do their thing.

Quick Snake ID for folks here in Centra NC 🐍

I've spotted two little guys over the past few days—both completely harmless and actually great to have around.

1. Baby Eastern Garter Snake

Usually brown/olive with 3 light stripes (one down the back, two on the sides)

Babies are small but fast and a little feisty. This little guy certainly was 😂

You’ll find them in yards, mulch beds, and around water

They help control pests like insects and small rodents

2. Rough Green Snake

Bright green and super slender (almost vine-like)

Blends perfectly into bushes and shrubs

Very calm and non-aggressive

Eats insects like caterpillars and crickets

Good news: Both are non-venomous and beneficial for your property. No need to harm them—just give them space and let them do their job.
