We have a strange habit of saving our best words about people until they're leaving.
The retirement party.
The farewell lunch.
The last day.
That's when we finally tell someone how much they contributed, how much we learned from them, or how different the team was because they were there.
Why wait?
Recognition means more when someone can still use it.
Tell people when they're doing something right.
Tell them when you've noticed their growth.
Tell them when their effort mattered.
And when somebody consistently makes the people around them better, make sure they know you see it.
Say it while they're still there to hear it.
