Today, we are looking back at the Paw Paw Tunnel Project.

The Paw Paw Tunnel was constructed by the C&O Canal Company in 1840 to avoid building 11km of canal along the Potomac River's Paw Paw Bends. A long history of rockfall and slope instability on the northern approach to the tunnel, including a major rockslide in May 2016, resulted from a combination of geology, gravity, weathering, and water intrusion.

In September of 2020, we were awarded the contract to perform slope stabilization and got to work less than a year later.

The work included removal of the 2016 rockslide debris and stabilization using rock scaling, rock bolting, pinned mesh and shear keys formed from reinforced, sculpted shotcrete. Drainage improvements included internal rock drains and surface drains at the top of the bank.

𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗝𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗗𝗘𝗗

We are now entering our second phase of work at the Anderson Dam site, located in Morgan Hill, CA. With a contract value of $269M, our team is looking forward to working on the seismic retrofit in one of the nation’s largest dam safety improvement projects.

During this multi-year program project, we will be working closely with FlatironDragados Sukut Joint Venture as a subcontractor. Construction is projected to begin in the Spring of 2027.

Drill Tech Breaks Ground on Regional Office in Elbert County

Drill Tech Drilling and Shoring has expanded its presence in the Mountain States Region with the groundbreaking of a new regional office in unincorporated Elbert County, establishing a permanent hub for its growing Colorado operations.

“We are excited to deepen our roots in Colorado and continue to grow our team in the region,” said Jacob Prezkuta, Colorado Area Manager. “This new location will establish a permanent hub for office, shop coordination, and equipment storage for Colorado and the Mountain States Region, an essential element to our projects’ success,” Prezkuta said.

Drill Tech currently owns several subsidiary companies and functions out of more than ten offices across the United States.

This design-build project serves as a seepage barrier wall extending as far as 165ft deep. This is one of the deepest commercial soil mixing jobs ever to be performed. Located an hour South of Houston, the project will contribute to the construction of a reservoir in an effort to combat extreme drought and flooding in the area.

Our scope of work is set to be completed by summer of 2027.
