Is this summer heat getting you down? Longing for the promises of spring? Here are some native plant species that don’t need cold stratification that you can start growing right now! 🌱🌱

🌱 Wild Bergamot (+ other Monarda)
🌱 Purple Coneflower
🌱 Buttonbush
🌱 Yarrow
🌱 Common Sneezeweed
🌱 Shrubby St. John’s Wort
🌱 Clustered Mountain Mint (+ other Pycanthenum)
🌾 Little Bluestem & Purple Love Grass (+ other Grasses)

How do you know if a species doesn’t need cold stratification, a period of moist cold (like winter) that prepares the seed the germinate? The USDA has a repository of germination protocols if you’re wanting to read all the gory details, but the best way is to check Prairie Moon Nursery for species with the germination code “A”
