This one made our day.

One of the things I’m most proud of at Genuine Electric is the team we’ve built.

A project like this takes more than knowing how to do good electrical work. It takes communication, planning, keeping a clean jobsite, helping customers work through decisions, and treating their home like it’s our own.

Alfie and the crew knocked this one out of the park, and hearing that our customers noticed means a lot to me.

We’re also incredibly fortunate to work with people like Soule and Alex. Great customers make our jobs pretty enjoyable too — and apparently Alfie offers complimentary cat updates. 😂

⚡ Storm Damage? We Can Help. 🌳⛈️

Tis this season for Minnesota storms! These storms can bring down more than just branches. When trees fall into overhead electrical service lines, they can rip the service mast right off a home, leaving homeowners without power and facing a potentially dangerous situation.

This week, we repaired a home in Roseville after a fallen tree tore down the electrical service. We were also called to another storm-damaged property today. The before-and-after photos show just how much damage can occur—and how quickly it can be restored when repaired properly.

At Genuine Electric, we handle:

🐦⚡ PARKING LOT LIGHTS OUT? Sometimes the problem is more than just a bad bulb.

We were recently called out to a parking lot in Spring Lake Park where several lights had stopped working. After getting to the top of the pole, we quickly found the culprit—a bird had built a nest inside the pole, and years of debris, moisture, and heat had left the wiring a burnt mess.

As we started repairs, the bird suddenly flew out at us! 😳

After safely removing the damaged wiring, making the necessary repairs, and restoring the electrical connections, the lights were back up and running properly.

This is a good reminder that electrical issues are often symptoms of a bigger problem hiding behind the scenes. Whether it’s weather damage, failing connections, rodents, birds, or aging equipment, proper troubleshooting matters.

If your exterior lighting, parking lot lights, sign lighting, or building lights aren’t working correctly, don’t just keep replacing bulbs—have the system inspected.

⚡ LOST POWER TO PART OF YOUR HOUSE? ⚡
Before you panic or schedule a service call, check your GFCI outlets first!

A tripped GFCI outlet is one of the MOST common electrical service calls we receive.

These safety outlets are designed to shut power off when moisture or an electrical imbalance is detected — helping protect your family from electrical shock.

📍 COMMON PLACES TO FIND GFCIs:
✔ Bathrooms
✔ Garages
✔ Basements
✔ Kitchens
✔ Outdoor receptacles

⚠️ WHAT THEY MAY AFFECT:
• Bathroom outlets
• Garage outlets
• Basement outlets
• Outdoor outlets
• Sometimes multiple rooms or nearby receptacles

💧 COMMON REASONS THEY TRIP:
• Outdoor extension cords getting wet
• Rain or moisture in exterior outlets
• Holiday/decorative lighting
• Garage refrigerators or freezers
• Power tools outdoors
• Aging or failing appliances

✅ BEFORE CALLING AN ELECTRICIAN:

1. Look for outlets with “TEST” and “RESET” buttons
2. Check bathrooms, garages, basements, and outside outlets
3. Firmly press the RESET button
4. See if power comes back on

Many times, this restores power immediately.

🚨 YOU SHOULD CALL AN ELECTRICIAN IF:
• The GFCI will not reset
• It trips repeatedly
• You smell burning or notice heat/discoloration
• You hear buzzing/crackling
• Water entered the electrical equipment
• Breakers continue tripping
• You still have dead outlets after resetting

Electrical safety devices trip for a reason. Sometimes it’s a simple nuisance trip… and sometimes it’s warning you about a larger issue.
