Did you know batteries can pose a fire safety risk? Stop using your batteries if you notice they

🔋have a strange odor
🔋are discolored or corroded
🔋are emitting too much heat
🔋have changed shape
🔋are leaking
🔋are making strange noises

Stay updated on battery safety recalls and remember to always store your batteries at temperatures between 32 degrees and 105 degrees. Charge devices safely, use approved equipment, and talk with your family members about simple steps that help prevent battery-related fires.

During a fire, embers can travel ahead of the flames and find small, vulnerable places around a home.

Take an “ember walk” around your property this week. Look closely at:

🔥 Gutters filled with leaves or pine needles
🔥 Roof valleys where debris collects
🔥 Attic and soffit vents
🔥 Areas beneath decks and porches
🔥 Doormats, patio cushions and outdoor furniture
🔥 Wood piles and wooden fences near the house

You don’t have to complete a major project today. Start by removing dry debris and moving easily ignited items farther from your home.

Then ask yourself: If embers were blowing through my neighborhood, where would they land?

A few minutes of prevention now could make an important difference later.

A recent fire in the City of Redding destroyed residences and claimed the life of a pet. Here are a few reminders to help protect your loved ones.

🔥Please take a moment to properly extinguish and dispose of all smoking materials.

🔥Double-check that your smoke alarms are working and are placed within every bedroom and in front of every sleeping area. This early warning system saves lives.

Effective 5:30 PM on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the Evacuation WARNINGS for Zones BEV-4250 and BEV-4370 have been lifted. These zones are now in a NORMAL status.

***UPDATE***

Effective 12:50 PM on Monday, July 20, 2026, Zone BEV-4250 was placed into a WARNING status.
At this time, Zones BEV-4250 and BEV-4370 are both in a WARNING status.
Fire crews remain in the area actively working to increase containment and conducting extensive mop-up operations. Residents are urged to remain cautious when in the area.

*** UPDATE***

As of 7:00 PM Zone BEV-4370 has been placed into a WARNING status.
BEV-4250 remains under an Evacuation ORDER.
The road closures remain the same as previously reported.

For the Brook Fire:
Effective 7:30 AM the following Zones remain under an Evacuation ORDER:
BEV-4250 and BEV-4370.
All other Evacuation ORDERS and WARNINGS have been lifted.

The need for an evacuation shelter will be assessed.

Hard Road Closures include:
Backbone Ridge at Hidden Valley and Backbone at Seaman Gulch.
Elk Trail East is open to RESIDENTS ONLY.

A large amount of firefighting personnel remains in the area and will be there for an extended period of time. The public is urged to stay clear of the area to allow them to work and residents returning to their homes are urged to exercise extreme caution.

The public is also encouraged to download the Genasys Protect app to their mobile device and take the time to know their zone. The app is free and can be found on your provider’s app store.
