I never thought I’d see the day I got a warrant, but apparently my work keeping our community safe has landed me in some serious trouble! 😂

I'm Chief Steve Lowe, aka The Firebreak Bandit, and my charges are:

A recent fire in the City of Redding destroyed residences and claimed the life of a pet. Here are a few reminders to help protect your loved ones.

🔥Please take a moment to properly extinguish and dispose of all smoking materials.

🔥Double-check that your smoke alarms are working and are placed within every bedroom and in front of every sleeping area. This early warning system saves lives.

Effective 5:30 PM on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the Evacuation WARNINGS for Zones BEV-4250 and BEV-4370 have been lifted. These zones are now in a NORMAL status.

Effective 12:50 PM on Monday, July 20, 2026, Zone BEV-4250 was placed into a WARNING status.
At this time, Zones BEV-4250 and BEV-4370 are both in a WARNING status.
Fire crews remain in the area actively working to increase containment and conducting extensive mop-up operations. Residents are urged to remain cautious when in the area.

*** UPDATE***

As of 7:00 PM Zone BEV-4370 has been placed into a WARNING status.
BEV-4250 remains under an Evacuation ORDER.
The road closures remain the same as previously reported.

For the Brook Fire:
Effective 7:30 AM the following Zones remain under an Evacuation ORDER:
BEV-4250 and BEV-4370.
All other Evacuation ORDERS and WARNINGS have been lifted.

The need for an evacuation shelter will be assessed.

Hard Road Closures include:
Backbone Ridge at Hidden Valley and Backbone at Seaman Gulch.
Elk Trail East is open to RESIDENTS ONLY.

A large amount of firefighting personnel remains in the area and will be there for an extended period of time. The public is urged to stay clear of the area to allow them to work and residents returning to their homes are urged to exercise extreme caution.

The public is also encouraged to download the Genasys Protect app to their mobile device and take the time to know their zone. The app is free and can be found on your provider’s app store. It's fire season - Just a quick reminder ever home and business needs smoke alarms A few tips about smoke alarms to keep you and your loved ones safe.

1. Have a dual smoke alarm. Most people don’t realize this, but there are two types of smoke alarms – an ionization alarm and a photoelectric alarm. Photoelectric smoke detectors are quicker at sensing a slower, smoky fire. An example of this would be an electrical fire. Simultaneously, an ionization alarm sounds more quickly when a flaming, fast-moving fire occurs. An example would be if your kid played with matches and accidentally caught on some material that started to spread soon. That’s why it’s always a good reason to have both alarms or a dual fire detector.

2. Install a smoke alarm in every room of your home or office. There should be a smoke alarm in every bedroom as well as outside each sleeping or open area. If you have a split-level home, you must have them on every floor. Smoke alarms might save your life; it is critical to have the right amount of alarms per room/sq. Ft.

3. Test your smoke alarm every month. It’s a good rule of thumb to test your alarms once a month to ensure they’re in working order. You don’t want to wait until a fire occurs to find out your notice is out of batteries or no longer works. It only takes a few minutes of your time – isn’t your life and those around you worth it? Test your smoke alarm; you’ll thank us for it.

4. If you’ve had your smoke alarm longer than ten years, it’s time to replace it. It’s simple, and if you had had your smoke alarm longer than ten years, you should replace it. You want to have an alarm that will work, that’s accurate, and that gets the job done.
