Matt and Erin Narus and Suzanne and Rob Taylor represented Kuna at the Alaska Heart Walk on Saturday, joining hundreds of participants in support of the American Heart Association.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Team Kuna raised $582 to support the fight against heart disease and stroke.

Thank you to everyone who donated, participated, and helped make the event a success. We were glad to be part of a great morning supporting healthier communities across Alaska.

❤️ Kuna is joining the 2026 Alaska Heart Run & Walk!

On Saturday, September 19, Team Kuna will join others from across our community in support of the American Heart Association and its work to fight heart disease and stroke.

Every contribution helps support lifesaving research, CPR education, and programs that improve heart health here in Alaska and across the country.

If you’d like to support Team Kuna, please consider making a donation through our fundraising page:

Please join us in welcoming Court Pegus to Kuna’s Environmental team!

Court is a marine scientist, drone enthusiast, sailor, diver, gadget builder, photographer, and someone who clearly prefers exploring the natural world firsthand.

His fascination with marine science began at age five, when he generously added two tablespoons of salt to his freshwater fishbowl. The fish did not appreciate the experiment, but Court became fascinated by what had happened. That childhood lesson in salinity eventually came full circle when his master’s research focused on how baby shrimp use salinity cues to navigate back into wetlands and estuaries.

At Kuna, Court is especially interested in expanding his work with drones, GIS, remote sensing, and 3-D photogrammetric mapping to support ecological monitoring in Alaska’s coastal communities. He also hopes to help develop hands-on STEM programs that give students and communities new ways to monitor and understand environmental changes affecting marine mammals and other important subsistence resources.

When he isn’t working, Court enjoys sailing, diving, macro photography, building gadgets that let him explore on, in, above, and beneath the ocean, and producing and editing ethnographic films.

And one thing his coworkers might never guess from his résumé?

He says he has “a sense of humor, lust for life, and usually can find the silver lining in most situations.”

Judging from these photos, we believe him.

Welcome to Kuna, Court!

A pretty spectacular office for the day.

Kuna’s Andy West and Chris Fields were recently out in the NANA Region supporting work on NANA lands. Kuna is helping manage the region’s exploration program, combining technical expertise with the field experience needed to work safely and effectively in remote Alaska.

We’re always glad to see our team out in the field—and views like this aren’t a bad bonus.

Meet Tyler Johnson! 👋

Tyler recently joined the Kuna Engineering team, bringing experience from the Alaska Railroad Corporation, where he worked in the Right-of-Way & Public Projects department reviewing plans, coordinating railroad requirements, and helping manage public and capital projects.

His interest in engineering started long before that. As a kid, Tyler was always designing and building things just to see what he could create. Learning AutoCAD and 3D modeling in high school helped point him toward civil engineering.

What attracted him to Kuna was the opportunity to grow his career while working on a wide variety of projects and learning from other engineers.

And when he’s not at work? Tyler enjoys camping, off-roading, Alaska festivals, 3D printing, and working on projects in the garage.

He also competes in autocross events — timed driving courses laid out with cones — in Anchorage, Palmer, and occasionally Soldotna. 🏁

Welcome to Kuna, Tyler! We’re excited to have you here.

Meet Samuel Allen, Electrical EIT and one of the newest members of Kuna’s Electrical team!

Growing up in Honduras, Samuel experienced frequent power outages and saw electrical infrastructure that was often poorly constructed. Those experiences inspired him to become an electrical engineer and design systems that solve real problems and serve people well.

Samuel recently relocated to Alaska, a place he had dreamed of living long before his first visit. He is excited to take on the state’s unique engineering challenges, learn from Kuna’s multidisciplinary team, and work on projects that are both challenging and rewarding.

When he is not working, Samuel hopes to explore every corner of Alaska, learn to snowboard, hike more, and visit places such as Valdez and Sitka.

Welcome to the team, Samuel!

The unofficial Kuna Friday uniform is getting increasingly elaborate.

We now have two generations of Kuna Hawaiian shirts, several classic tropical prints, a bicycle-themed contribution from Nick, and enough collective confidence to pose for photographic evidence.

The newer black Kuna shirts feature fully Alaska-inspired imagery, while the lighter design represents the original edition. Both pair equally well with engineering and architectural expertise and the knowledge that it is finally Friday.
