Discount Mechanical Heating and Plumbing Services is a veteran-owned company that has proudly served Anchorage and the surrounding area since 2004. We specialize in residential heating and plumbing services and are committed to quality workmanship, safety, and excellent customer service.
We are hiring an experienced HVAC Maintenance Technician with at least two years of hands-on residential heating experience. This is not an entry-level position.
The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, customer-focused, and capable of completing residential heating system maintenance safely and efficiently. This position offers full-time, year-round employment, ongoing training, and the opportunity to advance within a growing Anchorage company.
▶️ Responsibilities
• Perform residential furnace, boiler, water heater, garage heater, and heating system maintenance.
• Complete thorough cleanings, inspections, and preventive maintenance services.
• Inspect burners, heat exchangers, ignition systems, venting, combustion air, filters, pumps, controls, and safety devices.
• Clean and service burners, flame sensors, ignitors, blower assemblies, combustion chambers, and other system components.
• Test system operation and verify that equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
• Perform combustion testing and document readings when required.
• Identify worn, unsafe, or failing components during maintenance visits.
• Complete minor repairs and adjustments within the technician’s training and qualifications.
• Create clear repair recommendations and explain findings to homeowners.
• Inform customers about available repair options, system improvements, indoor air quality products, and maintenance programs when appropriate.
• Assist with basic troubleshooting of furnaces, boilers, water heaters, thermostats, and heating controls.
• Follow manufacturer requirements, company procedures, and applicable municipal codes.
• Complete all required ServiceTitan documentation, maintenance checklists, estimates, and jobsite photos.
• Collect payment and obtain customer authorization when required.
• Maintain accurate truck inventory and request replacement parts and materials as needed.
• Keep the company vehicle, tools, equipment, and work areas clean, safe, and organized.
• Communicate professionally with homeowners, dispatchers, service technicians, and management.
• Participate in ongoing company training and professional development.
▶️ Required Qualifications
• At least two years of HVAC, heating, mechanical, or residential maintenance experience.
• Hands-on experience maintaining residential furnaces, boilers, water heaters, or related heating equipment.
• Basic understanding of gas-fired heating equipment, electrical components, controls, venting, and combustion air.
• Ability to complete preventive maintenance services with limited supervision.
• Ability to identify system deficiencies and clearly communicate recommended repairs.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, meters, testing instruments, ladders, and maintenance equipment.
• Comfortable using an iPad and mobile applications to complete job documentation.
• Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to lift and move equipment, tools, parts, and materials.
• Ability to work in crawlspaces, attics, mechanical rooms, and varying Alaska weather conditions.
• Must be dependable, punctual, organized, and able to manage a daily service schedule.
• Strong communication skills and a customer-first attitude.
• Professional appearance and respectful conduct inside customers’ homes.
• Ability to pass applicable pre-employment screening requirements.
▶️ Preferred Experience
• Residential boiler and hydronic heating maintenance.
• Forced-air furnace maintenance.
• Water heater and indirect water heater maintenance.
• Garage heater maintenance.
• Combustion testing and analysis.
• Basic electrical and heating control troubleshooting.
• Indoor air quality equipment, including humidifiers, media filters, and UV systems.
• Experience using ServiceTitan or a similar field service platform.
• Experience presenting repair recommendations and maintenance agreements to homeowners.
• Current mechanical apprentice card or related HVAC certifications.
