The wait is finally over; Sigoowu Yé (The Fun Place) park in Juneau is officially reopening!
Remember our summer 2023 park day celebration? Thanks to the incredible feedback and public input, we have transformed one of Juneau’s oldest playgrounds and favorite pocket parks into a modern, accessible space for everyone to enjoy! Check out the nostalgic old equipment in the background of our 2023 park planning day and the new park that was just completed this week. The treed park now includes new play structures and surfacing installed, improved pathways and inclusive design features, brightly colored landscaping and site furnishings (it's the Fun place) and park lighting to extend park use during our shorter days.

Corus Design led the public engagement and park planning and design, with RESPEC for providing the engineering support for this City and Borough of Juneau Juneau Parks & Recreation project. ExerPlay, Inc. supplied and installed the play equipment and safety surfacing, and Admiralty Construction was the general contractor.

Come celebrate the park reopening with a ribbon cutting and community BBQ on Saturday, August 29 from 12 to 2 p.m.

Yesterday, we celebrated the grand opening of the Tongass National Forest’s newest public-use cabin at the Mendenhall Glacier campground, in Juneau.
Translated as "the house in the face of the glacier," Sítʼ Yá Hítʼ features a fully accessible design, stunning glacier views, and was built using beautiful, locally sourced cedar. The Forest Service expects this to become the most popular cabin on the entire Tongass. The 260 square foot cabin has two stories and can accommodate up to 10 people and has ample outdoor gathering and seating areas.
We are incredibly proud to have been part of this design-build team alongside PND Engineers and Rainforest Contracting, and in partnership with the National Forest Foundation.

What a turnout for Jackie Renninger Park Day! Over 150 community members joined us, along with Juneau Parks & Recreation, PND Engineers, and New Line Skateparks, this past weekend to review the preliminary 35% park design. What was amazing was the wide range of participation, including youth, elders, pickleball players, skaters, and the general public.

This event was much more than a typical public comment session. We combined park planning with a fun community park celebration featuring a free BBQ, a scavenger hunt, a disc golf pop-up, and high-energy skate activities, all backed by a DJ. A highlight was welcoming SoCal pro skaters, Kanten Russell and Brandon Turner! They brought incredible energy to the park by discussing the skate park design and hosting a learn-to-skate clinic, an open skate session, and a best-trick competition.

The effort to give back to the community actually started the night before. We visited the Zach Gordon Youth Center for a pre-event pizza party, an introductory skate clinic, and a positive "healthy choices" mentoring chat with over 20 local youth and parents.

Thank you to everyone who came out to share feedback and shape the future of our community park, and the local skate shops and skaters for helping out. It was great fun showing Kanten and Brandon around Juneau.
