A client asked us today, “How does this much greasy buildup end up in a laundry line?!”

Great question! Because it isn’t always actual grease.

Laundry drain lines can slowly collect a combination of detergent residue, fabric softener, lint, body oils, and whatever else is regularly going through the washing machine. Using too much detergent, using the wrong detergent for an HE washer (high-efficiency) or even regularly washing oily or heavily soiled items can all contribute.

The condition of the drain line matters too. Older piping, rough interiors, poor slope, or restricted flow can give all that residue a place to settle and build up over time.

For this particular line, we first ran a cable and found a significant amount of sludge. We then brought out the hydro jetter to thoroughly wash the buildup from the line.

Moral of the story: your washing machine may be cleaning your clothes, but your laundry drain is handling everything that comes off of them 😅

A whistling faucet and water leaking onto the counter may seem like two completely different problems….but sometimes the issue is hiding inside the handle..👀

For this location, we were called out for two separate faucet issues:

One bathroom faucet would actually start whistling unless the hot water was left slightly dripping. In another bathroom, turning on the hot water caused water to leak onto the counter.

After inspecting both, we found problems with the hot side stems. We installed a new Pfister stem in the master bathroom, and a new Delta stem in the hallway bathroom to get both faucets functioning properly again.

The stem is a small internal part that helps control the flow of water when you turn on the handle. When it becomes worn or damaged, you can end up with dripping, leaking, strange noises, or a faucet that just doesn’t behave the way it should.

Sometime the weird little things your plumbing starts doing is it’s way of telling you something needs attention. 🔧

A little pool plumbing lesson for your Tuesday 💧🔧

This Champion pool filler valve was leaking from its anti—siphon assembly. Once we opened it up, we found the culprit:

✨Corrosion✨

It had caused the internal plunger to lodge itself in the open position. The valve packing around the shutoff stem was leaking as well.

Rather than simply replacing everything, Daniel rebuilt it.

He cleaned the internal components and shutoff stem, installed a new anti-siphon plunger, felt gasket and valve packing, then tightened everything back up and tested it for proper operation and leaks.

Why does the anti-siphon matter? Its job is to help prevent water from flowing backward into the potable water supply. It’s a small component doing a pretty important job.

🚿✨A little Plumb Guild Field Trip storytime…

Recently, we took a trip down to RH at Fashion Island for a bit of inspiration.

Naturally, we made a beeline for the plumbing fixtures 😂

Beauuuutiful faucets, tubs, vanities, finishes, and bathroom setups that immediately had us imagining what we could create for the right home.

While we were there, we also learned that we could open up an RH Trade account, which gives us another resource to help our clients source and upgrade just about anything they can dream up for their space ✨
