We recently had the wonderful opportunity to work with an amazing client. She had an issue where her concrete pad had a 4 inch lip that she wanted to add a slope to. We discussed several options and decided to go with gravel. This is due to the runoff from the roof. The concern was if we poured concrete, than the rain would just go down the slope and erode the dirt away at the bottom in a couple years. The other issue was the possibility for the gravel to move over the years.
The solution to this problem was to dig out a 9ft by 4ft by 2inch pad. Once that was done we ran a plate tamper over the dirt to compact the soil as much as possible. After the soil was compacted bricks were set on the sides to act as a decorative feature and to reduce lateral movement of the gravel.
With the pad excivated and ground compacted we put 4 layers of w**d barrier down then ordered a special material that construction crews use on high grade slopes. Geocell is a geotextile that locks the gravel into place in the individual cells. This drastically reduces gravel movement.
With the gravel inplace we ran a plate tamper over the surface to lock everything inplace further. The last step of this project was replacing the existing pine needle landscaping.
We are super happy with how this project turned out. The gravel will easily drain any water off the roof without causing soil erosion. The customer can drive her truck onto her concrete slab without any issues, and it looks great!
The best part about this job however was the customer. I love having the opportunity to meet wonderful and interesting people. Even if they are Alabama fans lol. Thank you so much for allowing us to do this project for you!
