Please don't use cypress mulch!

Cypress mulch is an environmentally friendly, rot and insect-resistant good choice for your garden. The answer is FALSE. Many people think that cypress mulch is a by-product of tree milling operations in Louisiana, Alabama, and the other Gulf states. This, too, is false.

Distraction: a thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else.

I used to be a lot more focused before social media and before having a dog. Don't get me wrong, I love her, but all I think about is whether she pooped or not.

110 days from a solo exhibition might sound like a lot of time for an artist. But, not when that artist has 7 gardens to tend to as well. I just watched a Florida lady (3 years older than me) talk about how her body hurts from cleaning up her yard after Hurricane Milton. She's moving back to Illinois. Yep, I hear and feel ya!

When I just work on one thing at a time, gosh, I feel magic.

So, what I'm trying to say is that I will be really focusing this next few months. I do apologize if I miss your event.

Getting back to hand building sculptures in clay has been the missing link in my creative process. I'm having so much fun during my residency at Clayer & Co! Clay peeps are wacky and inspiring! I will admit though, clay takes so much more time and planning. You will see everything - in 110 days!

If I don't get back to you when you message me about plants - I will, but maybe in February ;)

Let me end this post by being a Marvel nerd ~

A few years back, I wrote the "Grumpy Gardener" and asked if he would consider to not recommend exotic invasive plants in his articles for Southern Living. Yesterday, I saw a piece about Japanese spurge in Home and Gardens! Ugh. Please don't plant this invasive species that is hard to remove and is prone to fungal diseases.
Because many of these magazine articles are not helping with making wise decisions, I suggest joining your Native Plant Society chapter or hire a native plant expert. Or...if you're in the coastal Georgia area...

All the ecological work I do is for my nieces, nephew, cousins, siblings, husband, my husband's family and their kids, my friends and their kids. I want all the next generations to enjoy the outdoors as much as I do and preserve our natural world for all the animals, insects, trees and plant life! So, I think I have a stake in the future of our country...says me, the childless cat lady + Shih tzu!

Republican vice-presidential nominee J.D. Vance said the U.S. is run by “a bunch of childless cat ladies”—here’s why that’s misguided.

It's finally here - the new chapter of the Georgia Native Plant Society for the Savannah area, Pooler, Richmond Hill, the Coastal islands out to Statesboro!

GNPS is Growing!
New Maritime Chapter forms on the Georgia Coast

Exciting news! A new chapter of GNPS has formed along the Georgia Coast. Interest in a chapter centered in the coastal counties has grown as the needs for native plant education and conservation have grown over the past couple of years. A core group of volunteers came together earlier this year to begin the step-by-step process of forming a chapter. Now, the Maritime Chapter is ready to host its first meeting on Saturday, August 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Coastal Georgia Botanical Garden in Savannah.

The Maritime Chapter of GNPS will cover the counties of Effingham, Liberty, McIntosh, Chatham, Glynn, Wayne, Camden, Bryan, Long, Charlton, and Brantley. If you are a current member of GNPS and would like to change your chapter affiliation to the Maritime Chapter, please complete this brief form.

Much appreciation goes to the Coastal Plain Chapter, which has offered programs and events in as much of the coastal area as possible over the last 10 years. Their efforts have allowed our network to grow - thank you!

I will be in the group exhibition, 'HEAT', 4th Biennial National Juried Exhibition organized by The Gainesville Fine Art Association, opening Aug. 30, 2024.

My work, 'Warming Warning Signs', is an ongoing sculptural mixed media project I started in 2019 as my concerns about climate change and the effects it has on you and me grows. Those of you that have seen it displayed (2019 - 2023) will enjoy the additional elements.

The jurors are amazing!
