We often get asked about black spots on the leaves of Maple trees. These spots are called Black Tar spots. Black tar is a fungus. In general, it won’t hurt your tree and if you take a walk around your neighborhood, you will probably see many trees with the same spots. Fall is an important time for this. This fall be sure to rake up all the leaves and dispose of them. The black tar fungus can overwinter in fallen leaves and re-infect your tree next summer. It’s hard to keep others’ leaves from blowing into our yard but if everyone does their part, then collectively we can make a difference and hopefully have less trees with this common disease next year.

This past winter was a rough one on trees. When ice and wind combine, even the healthiest of trees can fail. We hear so many of our customers tell us they are afraid their tree will fall on their house. And it might...given the right conditions. But when you look at your tree and see that it has lots of good foliage in the summer, that means it's more than likely pretty healthy. And don't worry if you see small twigs fall from time to time. Just like humans lose hair and skin, trees lose twigs and leaves. And trees are meant to sway and bend in the wind. Again, even a healthy tree can fail given the right circumstances, but if it's been standing there for a number of years, it's probably not going to fall down now. Please consider trimming your tree away from your structure instead of cutting it down. Trees offer shade in the summer (think less $$ spend on AC), beauty in the summer and fall, they are shelter for birds and squirrels and they help to clean our air. And who doesn't love a tree lined street over a barren landscape?

Fall is here! We hope you are enjoying those beautiful fall leaves. Your trees are all dressed up and putting on a show! We appreciate all the customers that have trusted us with your trees this year. Next week (Oct. 11-15) is our last week of estimating for this season. While our crew continues to work all winter, our office will close for the most part until mid March. We are currently booked all the way into March and will work all winter to catch up. It becomes difficult to do estimates as the days get shorter and darkness creeps in shortly after we complete cutting for the day. Additionally, it just doesn't make sense to do an estimate now when we can't do the work until Spring. If you missed us this year, give us a ring in mid March and we'll be happy to set you up with a free estimate appointment. The good news is that when you call in March you'll be first up on the list of folks to get their jobs done in spring! Until then, we wish you the best in the coming months and we'll talk to you in the spring!

How will the 17 year Cicadas affect my trees? It's hard to determine how many cicadas will emerge in your area. You will begin to see small holes in the ground, about the size of a thumb. These cicadas will emerge from the ground and move into nearby trees, and eat the leaves of trees. More established trees may see a little bit of droopiness or dieback, but should be able to withstand the onslaught. Trees planted in the last year or two may need a little bit of help to continue to thrive. You can get a little bit of netting (holes less than 1/2", that allow air, rain and sun to come through) and put it over the tree and secure it around the base of the tree. If you just planted the tree in the last few years, it should still be small enough to do this. Be sure to check often to make sure that whatever you've secured the netting to the trunk with isn't cutting into the bark or the bark isn't growing around it. Take this all OFF this FALL. Do not allow it to remain over the winter. Remember that this is a phenomenon of nature. It won't be the first time or the last that it happens. Do what you can for your trees and enjoy the summer!

Today we start the 2021 estimating season! Our phones are on and we're taking appointments for free estimates. Please remember that while we are not in the office during the day, we do strive to return all calls within one business day. Just leave a message with your name, address and phone number, and give us a BRIEF description of the work you want done (rem a backyard tree in the corner or trim my front yard tree near the porch, for example). We will return your call as quickly as possible. We will talk to you soon!

Happy Spring! It's coming, I can feel it! We've been hard at work all winter and as soon as the time changes we will start doing estimates again. Our phones will open for appointments on March 15. We'll be pretty well caught up with jobs so those first jobs will get done fairly soon after the estimate. But as our long time customers know, as soon as the season starts, we start booking up quickly. If you want your work done in the spring, better call in the last two weeks of March. Those of you with Oak trees, it's too late to trim them this season. Call us in summer to get your job on our winter schedule. Looking forward to hearing from you!

It's been a crazy year! First we couldn't work and now we can't work fast enough! We're currently booking into the winter months of January-March. If you want to get your tree trimmed or removed and need an estimate, now is the time to call and get an appointment because by mid-October we'll be booked to March and turn off the phones until March. Thank you for your business!

We were happy to hear we can get back to work! We will be doing things a little differently but we believe we can work safely. Thank you for your patience during the shutdown. We’re looking forward to serving you soon.

03/25/2020

Due to the State of Michigan Executive Order, we will not be providing any estimates or performing any work until we are given the all clear. Tree service is not considered an essential service except for cases of emergency. Thank you for your support and we will see you in a few weeks!
