WE’RE HIRING

EXPERIENCED INSULATION TECHNICIAN

BUILDING PERFORMANCE CAREER TRACK

Starting pay: $20–$26/hour

⚠️ EDIT / PAY CORRECTION:
An earlier version of this post accidentally stated “starting at $22/hour” farther down in the description. That was an error. The correct starting pay range for this position is $20–$26/hour, depending on verified experience, skill, knowledge, and demonstrated ability.

Starting wage within this range will be based on verified experience, skill, knowledge, and demonstrated ability.

Colony Insulation is looking for someone who wants more than another construction job.

We are looking for someone who wants to develop into a true Building Performance Specialist — someone who wants to become an expert in the industry and understand not only how insulation is installed, but how buildings actually work.

Colony is not just an insulation company.

We are a building performance company.

Our work involves understanding the relationship between insulation, air leakage, heat flow, moisture, airflow, ventilation, v***r, bulk water, durability, indoor comfort, and the building itself.

We install and work with systems including:

• Closed-cell spray foam
• Fiberglass batt insulation
• Blown fiberglass
• Dense-pack cellulose
• Mineral wool
• Air sealing
• Attic systems
• Crawlspace systems
• Moisture-management solutions
• Coatings and specialty applications
• Building-performance upgrades

You do not need to know everything when you walk through the door.

You do need to want to learn, improve, and become exceptionally good at what you do.

EXPERIENCE

Previous experience in insulation, spray foam, construction, HVAC, roofing, weatherization, restoration, carpentry, or another skilled trade is strongly preferred.

Spray foam and insulation experience are a major plus.

We are especially interested in someone who already understands construction and wants to take the next step from simply performing tasks to understanding WHY the work is being done.

Experience is valuable, but we are not looking for someone who believes they already know everything.

We want someone who can bring useful experience to Colony while still being willing to learn the Colony way.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT

This is not intended to be a dead-end installer position.

For the right person, there is an opportunity to develop into roles such as:

• Building Performance Specialist
• Qualified Installer
• Lead Installer
• Foreman
• Trainer
• Technical Specialist
• Quality-control responsibility
• Future leadership positions

Advancement is earned through demonstrated skill, reliability, quality, professionalism, leadership, and continued development.

The opportunity will depend largely on what you are willing and able to become.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• Starting pay of $20–$26/hour based on verified experience, skill, knowledge, and ability
• Overtime paid in accordance with applicable law
• One week of company-paid PTO after 6 months of employment
• 401(k) retirement plan with company match for eligible employees, subject to plan terms
• Fuel perks
• Company-provided training
• Continuing education opportunities
• Approved education and certification reimbursement opportunities
• Manufacturer and industry training opportunities
• Hands-on technical development across multiple insulation and building-performance systems
• Company shirts and work gear
• Professional tools and specialized equipment provided for company work
• Regular coaching and performance feedback
• Opportunities for increased responsibility, compensation, and advancement as your abilities develop

HOURS & SCHEDULE

This is construction.

Our workload is not exactly the same every week.

Some weeks may be closer to 30 hours.

Busy weeks may be closer to 50–60 hours.

Hours fluctuate based on workload, project size, weather, scheduling, travel, customer needs, and other jobsite conditions.

Weekly hours are not guaranteed.

This position requires someone who can handle that flexibility.

Some weeks will be lighter.
Some weeks will be busy.
Some days will end earlier.
Some days will run later than expected.

When the workload is there, we need people who are willing to work and help the team get it done.

WEEKENDS

Most weekends are off.

We want to keep it that way whenever possible.

Most of us have kids and families ourselves, and we understand that people have lives outside of work.

However, some weekend work will occasionally be required because of project schedules, commercial jobs, weather, deadlines, travel, or customer requirements.

We will make every reasonable effort to communicate weekend work and unusual scheduling requirements ahead of time whenever possible.

Flexibility is still a requirement of the position.

TRAVEL & OVERNIGHT PROJECTS

Some projects require us to travel outside of our normal local work area.

Occasional out-of-town and overnight work is required for this position.

When Colony requires an approved overnight stay:

• Hotel accommodations are provided
• Applicable per diem is provided

Employees in this position must be willing to travel when projects require it.

Some projects may involve multiple consecutive days away from home.

JOB COMPLETION & RESPONSIBILITY

Construction does not always follow the schedule we expected when we left the shop that morning.

Jobs occasionally take longer than anticipated because of:

• Hidden conditions
• Additional preparation
• Equipment problems
• Material or jobsite conditions
• Scope clarification
• Quality-control requirements
• Customer concerns
• Project changes
• Cleanup or protection requirements
• Other circumstances that cannot always be predicted

Because of that, an estimated completion time is not automatically the end of the workday.

A job is not finished simply because the time we originally expected to leave has arrived.

While you are on the clock, we expect you to remain committed to the responsibility in front of you.

That means taking care of:

The job.
The customer.
The quality of the work.
Your crew.
The company.

That does NOT mean we expect employees to ignore legitimate family emergencies or important personal situations.

We expect communication.

What we cannot operate around is someone simply deciding that their personal preference to leave at a certain time is more important than safely and responsibly completing or securing an active project.

Before leaving a project, the crew should have a clear understanding that:

• The day's work is complete or properly secured
• The installation meets Colony standards
• Quality-control requirements have been addressed
• Required job documentation is complete
• Customer questions or concerns have been addressed or properly escalated
• The customer understands what was completed and what happens next
• The work area has been cleaned and protected
• Tools and equipment are accounted for
• The lead or responsible person has approved departure

Sometimes that means working later than originally expected.

The expectation is simple:

Finish responsibly.
Protect the quality.
Take care of the customer.
Support your crew.
Communicate.
Leave the project in a condition everyone can be proud of.

WHAT WE ARE REALLY LOOKING FOR

Skill matters.

Experience matters.

But character matters just as much.

I do not expect perfection.

What I ask is that you try to be better every day.

Raise your standards.

Learn something.

Ask questions.

Take feedback.

Own your mistakes.

Improve your craft.

Help the person next to you.

Keep your word.

Take pride in your work.

Come from a place of service.

Everyone has emotions.

Everyone gets frustrated.

Everyone has difficult days and things happening outside of work.

We understand that.

The expectation is not that you become a robot.

The expectation is that you learn to operate professionally despite temporary frustration and do not allow your emotions or mindset in that moment to determine:

• The quality of your work
• How you treat your coworkers
• How you treat a customer
• Whether you follow safety requirements
• Whether you fulfill your responsibilities
• Whether the crew can depend on you

When you are on the clock, we expect you to be present and take responsibility for the work in front of you.

When the job is handled, we want our employees to go home and be present with their families too.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM COLONY

If you are willing to put the effort in, we are willing to invest in you.

We don't want to simply tell someone, “Do it this way.”

We want our people to understand:

WHAT we are doing.

HOW to do it correctly.

WHY we are doing it.

WHAT can go wrong.

HOW their work affects the customer and the building.

We will help you develop knowledge in areas including:

• Building science
• Spray foam
• Fiberglass
• Cellulose
• Mineral wool
• Air sealing
• Attic systems
• Crawlspace systems
• Moisture management
• Heat and airflow
• Equipment operation
• Jobsite protection
• Quality control
• Documentation
• Customer communication
• Problem recognition
• Troubleshooting
• Leadership

We want you to learn how to recognize a problem instead of simply covering it with insulation.

Our goal is not to create employees who only know how to put insulation into a wall.

Our goal is to develop professionals who understand buildings.

THE STANDARD

If you want to punch a clock, do the minimum necessary, resist feedback, and leave the responsibility to somebody else, Colony probably will not be the right fit.

If you want to:

Build a career.

Master a trade.

Understand building science.

Increase your value.

Take pride in your workmanship.

Learn from experienced people.

Continue your education.

Develop leadership ability.

And eventually become an expert in this industry...

We would like to talk to you.

All I ask is that you try to be better every day.

Raise your standards.

Come from a place of service.

And take pride in becoming someone your coworkers and customers can depend on.

Represent 😎 Proud to be Spray Foam Worldwide Ambassador Member #57 for 2026.

If you’re a member, tell me what keeps you motivated and in love with this work.

Why this industry? Why spray foam? How did it become your passion?

For me, I didn’t grow up dreaming about insulation. I started in this industry as a helper, just trying to learn a trade and build a better life. Somewhere along the way, it became much more than a job.

I became obsessed with learning the equipment, the chemistry, building science, moisture, airflow, condensation, and all the little details that separate simply spraying foam from actually solving problems.

This industry gave me a career, a purpose, and eventually the opportunity to build Colony Insulation. It allows me to provide for my family, create opportunities for other people, and help homeowners protect the places where their families live.

What keeps me motivated is knowing there is always more to learn, another problem to solve, another person to teach, and another level to reach.

Spray foam may have been where I started, but building performance is where the passion took me.

Proud to represent Colony Insulation and be part of an industry that has changed my life.

Now tell me your story. What keeps you going?
