First week of mowing in Scarborough, Maine Kennebunk, Maine and Higgins Beach routes was a success! First round of weeding knocked out this Friday! Starting our Sanford Maine and Town of Alfred mow route next week aswell as our first few loads of mulch. There is still time to get on the schedule for mulch, pruning and lawn or garden renovations before the heat of July sets in!

🛑 Why "Business as Usual" Won't Work for Your Lawn This Year
​We’ve all seen the news—Southern Maine is heading into the spring with a significant moisture deficit. While the snow is gone, the subsoil is still incredibly dry.
​This season, Wakem Lawn Care is recommending two major shifts away from the "traditional" Maine lawn care methods to ensure your yard stays green while others go dormant.

​1. The "Tall & Thick" Rule (3.5" vs. 2.5") 📏
​Most folks are used to a short, golf-course cut. But this year, we’re moving our decks up to 3.5 inches.
​The Science: Taller grass = deeper roots. A 3.5" blade encourages roots to dig deep into the subsoil where the water still lives.
​The Shade: Longer grass shades the soil, keeping it cooler and preventing the sun from "baking" out the moisture.

​2. Mulch, Don't Bag! ♻️
​It’s tempting to want every clipping bagged and gone, but those clippings are 80% water and packed with nitrogen.
​Free Food: Mulching returns those nutrients to the soil naturally.
​Moisture Lock: Think of it as a "micro-mulch" layer that protects the crown of the grass from the summer heat.

​The Goal: We want to build a "drought-shield" for your property now so that when July hits, your lawn is the one that stays lush and resilient.

​It’s hard to believe, but this season marks 12 years since I started this journey with nothing more than a push mower and a beat-up 1992 F-150. Back then, it was just about getting from one lawn to the next and proving that hard work could build something lasting.
​Fast forward to today, and we’ve grown into a team I’m incredibly proud of. With a fleet of three new trucks and three dedicated pros—including my father—we’re now managing nearly 200 properties from Scarborough, Maine to Kennebunk, Maine and up into Sanford Maine.

​Wakem Lawn Care is looking for a reliable, detail-oriented pro to join our family business for the 2026 season! We are specifically hiring for our Sanford route, with additional work throughout Alfred, Biddeford, Scarborough, and the Kennebunks.
​The Role:
​Sanford Route Lead: Manage your own route and work unsupervised most of the time across 50+ properties. Mostly mowing but rain days and fridays light gardening tasks as needed (or as you upsell them)
​Independence & Support: You’ll have the autonomy of a solo pro, but with backup from other teams on larger projects.
​Modern Fleet: Operate new trucks and a fleet of Walker mowers (MB23 and MT26).
​What We Offer:
