Nurture Nature, but do so wisely. It’s true that seasonal pruning keeps your trees and shrubs strong, vibrant, and ready to flourish. But should you prune in fall? Pruning is key to promoting beautiful blooms in the summer months; later in the season, strategic pruning helps encourage healthy long-term growth. But although we’re not ready to bid farewell to summer just yet, we do want to make sure you’re prepared when cooler weather sets in: Pruning trees and shrubs in autumn can can promote new growth that won’t survive the winter, wasting energy and potentially leaving the tree vulnerable. However, some maintenance pruning can be done to remove diseased or damaged limbs, or to tie back long, susceptible stems before the cold weather sets in.
