We were so pleased to celebrate the grand opening of Kelly Station yesterday!

Kelly Station serves a diverse community, providing affordable housing for families, including dedicated units for families experiencing homelessness and veterans. JSD provided civil, structural, surveying, landscape architecture, and construction services for this five-story, podium-style apartment building. The project showcases our ability to deliver high-quality affordable housing from concept through construction.

Our team also played an active role in the public entitlement process, participating in meetings with the City’s Development Assistance Team, Urban Design Commission, Plan Commission, and Common Council. This included close coordination with a geotechnical firm to help move the project forward.

Congratulations to Colton Darwin on becoming one of JSD’s newest Associates!

In his role at JSD, Colton supports design projects through topographic and utility field surveys, construction layout and staking, and survey drafting.

Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, hunting, fishing, and outdoor adventures. A fun fact about him is that he also loves to bake!

It was an inspiring night at the annual “Light the Night” event supporting Blood Cancer United Light The Night in the fight against Leukemia and lymphoma, as JSD was the Red Lantern Supporter and spoke at the ceremony. Held at the Henry Vilas Zoo, JSD’s Colton Darwin and Cade Miller donated their time to work alongside OPN Architects on land surveying a large area of the walk route through the zoo for the event.

OPN's Light the Night installations are designed to represent the different experiences of a cancer diagnosis:

The Remembrance Area invites guests to write the name of someone they are walking in support of.

The Columns of Luminaires feature pillars of white light that celebrate blood cancer survivors.

Finally, the Beacons of Resilience features a grid of illuminated spheres that come together to form the Blood Cancer United logo when viewed from a particular perspective.

JSD was honored to help OPN with their beautiful display for the event.

Happy 5th work anniversary to Jess Brown!

As a Project Coordinator and Office Manager, Jess truly wears many hats. From managing multi-line phones and FedEx deliveries to coordinating office errands, project submittals, proofreading, scheduling, and keeping data organized across multiple systems, she keeps the office running smoothly and always has a lot on her plate.

Outside of work, Jess loves traveling, drawing, shooting pool, and playing darts. And when summer rolls around, she’s all in for swimming, jet skis, beaches, boating, camping, and road trips.

Huxley Yards is bringing new affordable housing and community space to Madison’s northwest side! The 32-acre redevelopment includes The Victoria at Huxley Yards - A 55+ Community, a 250-unit senior housing building, The View At Huxley Yards Apartments, a 303-unit family housing building, and The Conway at Huxley Yards, a 50-unit family housing development, along with a 14.4-acre public park and more than 2,200 linear feet of new public streets.

JSD was proud to support the project as the developer’s land development consultant, providing surveying, civil engineering, landscape architecture, permitting, stormwater design, and construction-related services.

Through this work, JSD helped bring new housing, public infrastructure, and community space to a former industrial site, supporting the transformation of Huxley Yards into a vibrant new neighborhood!

A new home for a growing fire department! JSD was proud to attend the ribbon-cutting for the new Platteville Fire Department, Inc. Fire Department yesterday.

The new facility features expanded apparatus bays, improved equipment storage, firefighter decontamination areas, and space to support future staffing growth. City Council President Barbara Daus and Fire Chief Ryan Simmons also shared remarks during the ceremony.

JSD provided professional civil engineering and landscape architecture for the development, including coordination of geotechnical exploration for the building layout and stormwater management facilities. The project also placed a major focus on parking lot design and layout.

We 're proud to have played a part in bringing this new facility to life and celebrating this exciting milestone with the Platteville community!

Congratulations to Kal McHugh, one of our newest associates!

As a civil engineer, Kal works on a wide variety of projects, including commercial, residential, industrial, and DFD developments. His experience includes site development, grading and drainage, utilities, and earthwork volumes. He also plays an active role in field inspections, project coordination, and construction administration.

When he is not at work, Kal enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, racing, sports, and traveling. Clearly, he knows how to stay busy both on and off the clock.

Join us in welcoming Adam Rak, Senior Planner in our Chicago office, and Nathan Vaughn, Senior Project Surveyor in our Milwaukee office.

Adam brings more than 15 years of urban planning and design experience, specializing in site design, zoning, and entitlements while balancing client goals, regulatory requirements, and long-term community value.

Nathan has more than 20 years of experience leading land survey projects for transmission, water, and transportation projects. He also has extensive experience managing engineering, construction, architectural, and geospatial professionals to deliver successful project outcomes.

There's nothing better than seeing all ability levels gathered at Kracklauer Park in Village of Mundelein!

JSD prepared the successful OSLAD Grant for the park’s redevelopment and provided landscape architecture and civil engineering. The amazing park amenities consist of inclusive play equipment for ages 2-12 years with double wide ramps for multiple mobility users, a Boccia court, an accessible fishing station, pickleball courts, and a pollinator garden. We are proud to be part of a place where ALL can play together!
