A few moments from this weekend at ! We loved seeing our local artists and supporting the event. So nice to see neighbors come out, even in the rain, to enjoy art, music, food, and a day together.

Art on the Avenue is almost here!

This Saturday, Mount Vernon Avenue will fill with local art, live music, food, and neighbors enjoying the day together. It’s one of our favorite days in Del Ray.

In Rust Construction we’re proud to be one of the neighborhood businesses sponsoring this year. We’re supporting the Colonel Arnald D. Gabriel Concert Band Stage and the Free Festival Trolley, so keep an eye out for our banners while you’re there!

Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and for bringing everyone together.

Join us October 3, from 10 am to 6 pm. Art on the Avenue takes place on Mount Vernon Avenue, between Hume and Bellefonte Avenues. Free trolleys will run from Braddock Road and Potomac Yard Metro stations.

Three Rust Construction bathroom renovations in the same house featuring Heath Ceramics tile, handcrafted in California.

Geometric patterns, rich greens, and cool blues give each space its own personality.

Tile geometry/orientation, grout contrast, and the finish of the tile all affect the vibe.

Ever wonder what it takes to extend an elevator to a rooftop deck? Here's what the process looks like.

The process involves structural work, coordination with the building conditions, often complicated rooftop access, temporary weatherproofing, tight sequencing, and many other steps that have to come together correctly.

In this project, we worked in collaboration with to extend an existing elevator from the floor below to an existing rooftop deck. To do this we built a penthouse for the elevator cab. We also installed an outdoor TV and fireplace - among other improvements.

An "air-to-water" heat pump was one of the less visible, but most interesting, parts of this Alexandria renovation.

"Air to water "heat pumps = a more efficient alternative to boiler based "old school" hydronic/radiator systems. As a bonus air to water heat pumps can cool a house too. These electric-based systems are great for anyone who wants the feel of heat from radiators without burning gas or oil. Not to be confused with "air to air" heat pumps that use heat exchangers to blow out hot and cold air.

Kitchen, dining room, and screened porch renovation in Fairfax, VA.
This project was about making the spaces work better together. The renovated kitchen features warm cherry cabinetry, quartz countertops, and a pass-through window that creates a direct connection to the screened porch.
The result is a more functional kitchen and an easier transition between the indoor and outdoor living spaces.

Your kitchen feels cut off from the rest of the house. Your ceilings are nine feet on the first floor, seven on the second.

None of that is random. Every house in Alexandria and Arlington carries the mark of when it was built, from Old Town's narrow lots to Del Ray's front porches to Arlington's postwar ranches.
Understanding that history is the first step before any renovation.

Take a look at where this project started. This modest rowhome needed a full refresh, a dated yellow-and-black tiled bathroom, worn original hardwoods, an unpainted red brick exterior, and a kitchen island still framed in plywood.
Fast forward through a full renovation: a gutted and rebuilt bathroom with glazed subway tile and a walk-in glass shower, refinished hardwood floors throughout, a custom shiplap fireplace wall, an updated kitchen island, fresh paint inside and out, and a striking new gray brick exterior with black storm door and stonework steps.
