Grounds: What a Coffee Shop Taught Me That a Career Never Could by Gjergj Dollani is a candid memoir about leaving a successful corporate marketing career to build Café Chocolat, a specialty coffee and chocolate shop in Washington, DC. Through the excitement, uncertainty, long hours, relationships, financial realities, and ultimately the pandemic-forced closing of the café, Dollani explores what entrepreneurship really asks of us—and how the things we build can, in turn, transform us. The story has a particularly meaningful connection to ALine Architecture, which helped turn Dollani’s vision for Café Chocolat into a physical place, navigating the existing building, permitting, engineering coordination, code requirements, and construction. In that sense, Grounds is not only a story about building a business, but also about how an idea becomes a place—and how that place becomes part of a community.

Today, we met with Gjergj to receive our very own hardcover copy of his newly published book, beautifully dedicated and signed by the author. And, of course, we had coffee together again—just like in the old days at Café Chocolate.
For us, Café Chocolate was more than a café. It was a gem of a space, designed with passion and, for its time, truly special. It became a place where many meaningful moments, gatherings, social events, and experiences unfolded.
One of those unforgettable moments was the art fundraiser we organized there in 2019 to support those affected by the devastating Albanian earthquake—a beautiful coming together of art, community, and compassion.

ReGreenarate gives discarded materials a new botanical life. Fragments of plastic, printed words, and translucent layers are gathered and transformed into an abstract bloom—where traces of what was once waste become the texture and memory of something new. The work speaks to regeneration, renewal, and the possibility of turning what is overlooked into something that can bloom again.
Walking between art and architecture, these images exist in the space between an organic floral landscape and the abstract geometry of aerial maps.
