Trimming pyracanthas can be a real challenge when they’re very tall. Make sure that you have a sturdy ladder and some good tools and of course, gloves before you start this type of job.

Just another trimming job. Pyracanthas can be a beast when they are this tall.

Don’t trim your roses too early…

We get it—warm February weather makes you want to cut them back. But in Albuquerque, trimming before April 15 can actually damage your roses if a frost hits.

That frost can burn freshly cut areas and even kill parts of the plant.

Waiting is better for long-term growth. When you do trim, make sure you’re shaping the plant to grow outward, not inward, and removing any crossing branches so your roses can stay healthy and bloom better.

Patience now = better blooms later.

Want more privacy in your yard?

A lot of homeowners don’t realize you can create natural privacy just by choosing the right shrubs and trees.

In Albuquerque, plants like pyracantha and Italian cypress can give you great coverage, help block outside noise, and still look clean with your landscape.

The key is picking plants that actually work with our climate and match what you already have in your yard.

Done right, it gives you privacy, peace, and a better-looking space.

Mowing your lawn isn’t as simple as you think…

Cut too much and you can burn your grass—especially with the Albuquerque heat. If you always mow in the same direction, your grass starts to lay flat and look patchy.

To keep your lawn healthy, only cut about a third of the height each time, switch up your mowing direction, and stay consistent with your schedule. Weekly is best, and no more than every other week.

Do this, and your lawn will stay thick, green, and healthy.

Cleaning your yard? Don’t skip this.

The buildup under shrubs and along walls collects debris, traps moisture, and becomes the perfect spot for insects to nest.

It can also hurt your plants and make your yard look messy.

Clear it out, then water and fertilize those areas properly.

In Albuquerque, wind brings in a lot of debris—so staying on top of this makes a big difference.

Getting your home ready to sell?

Don’t overdo the landscaping.

Big upgrades can backfire—buyers might not even want what you put in.

Instead, focus on a clean, well-kept yard. Trim trees, cut the grass, remove weeds, and make everything look neat.

Simple curb appeal goes a long way… without wasting money.

Seed or sod… which one should you choose?

It really comes down to time vs cost.

Sod costs more, but gives you an instant lawn.
Seed is cheaper, but takes time and consistent watering to grow.

If you want fast results—go sod.
If you want to save money—go seed.

Either way works… it just depends on what you’re willing to invest.

Want to add color to your yard this summer?

Start by picking flowers that match your space—full sun, shade, or a mix. That alone makes a huge difference in how long they last.

Then think about what you want. Just color? Or do you want hummingbirds and bees too?

The earlier you plant, the better they’ll grow and last through the season.

Right plants + right spot = a yard that actually pops.

Seeing dead patches in your lawn this spring?

Before you panic—there’s usually a reason.

It could be poor sprinkler coverage, not enough nutrients, compacted soil, or even critters digging around.

Sometimes it’s as simple as aerating, power raking, fertilizing… or waiting until May to properly seed those spots.

Your lawn just needs the right conditions to bounce back.
