The University of Florida’s Flavet Park started not with a design concept, but with a question: how do students, faculty, and staff actually want to use this space?
That question—and answers found through extensive community engagement—shaped our team’s designs through project completion.
Tree canopy and built shade create cooler places to sit and move through the site. Courts and fitness areas support tennis, pickleball, volleyball, and informal exercise, while open lawns host pickup activities and campus events. Together, these changes expanded recreational opportunities on the site more than sixfold.
Surveys, tabling, and design workshops grounded the program in real use patterns, creating a finished complex that exceeds SITES benchmarks for mental restoration and social connection. At the same time, sustainability features such as material reuse, natural stormwater management, and increased vegetation help reduce environmental impacts and connect users to nature.
NV5 guided Flavet Park from early stakeholder engagement through construction, coordinating across disciplines to deliver a recreational space that performs for all users. We’re proud to help support campus wellness through inclusive, environmentally conscious design.
