Stay Warm, Stay Safe! 🔌🔥
We’re sharing Sparky the Fire Dog's advice: always keep 3' of clearance around space heaters, but as electricians, we want to share the behind the-wall facts:

The 80% Rule: Most space heaters use 1500 watts (12.5 amps). A standard 15-amp circuit should only handle 12 amps for long-term use. Running a heater on a standard circuit pushes it to the limit.

Loose Connections: High power causes wires to heat up and cool down. This "expanding and contracting" can loosen the screws on your outlets over time.
The Danger of Arcing: Loose connections can cause electricity to "jump" (arc) to stay connected. These arcs can reach extreme temperatures and start fires.

Professional Pro-Tip: Never use extension cords or power strips—they aren't rated for this heat!

For total peace of mind, we recommend a dedicated 20-amp circuit and Arc Fault (AFCI) protection for your high-use heating areas.

📞 Not sure if your outlets can handle the heat? Give us a call for a winter safety check!

December, January, and February are the peak months for heating fires. Space heaters are most often involved in these incidents.

Stay safe by keeping space heaters at least 3 feet from anything that can burn, and always turn them off when leaving the room or going to bed. Go to nfpa.org/winterfreeze for more tips.
