Hammond has a pretty interesting story. The community began as a settlement established by Swedish immigrant Peter Hammond and grew rapidly after the railroad arrived in 1854. Today, it is the largest city in Tangipahoa Parish, home to Southeastern Louisiana University, and an important crossroads connecting I-12 and I-55.

🏠 FORTIFIED in Pearl River, Louisiana! 💪🔨

We’re back on the Northshore today installing another FORTIFIED Roof™ — this time in Pearl River, LA!

Pearl River has some pretty cool history behind it. The town actually started as a small railroad community in the 1850s and was originally called “Halloo,” supposedly because loggers working along the river would yell “halloo!” back and forth to one another. The name eventually became Pearl River in 1888.

And here’s one we didn’t know — Pearl River is the easternmost incorporated town in Louisiana! It sits right next to the famous Honey Island Swamp, earning it the nickname “Home of the Honey Island Swamp.”

Even the Pearl River itself has a great story. French explorers named it for the pearls found in shells in the river, and today the river system supports more than 130 varieties of freshwater fish.

A community surrounded by this much Louisiana history deserves a roofing system built for Louisiana weather!

Our Legends Roofing crew is in Covington, LA today installing another FORTIFIED shingle roofing system! 💪🔨

FORTIFIED roofing has quickly gone from being something homeowners occasionally asked about to becoming a major part of what we do. In fact, roughly 75% of the roofs we install today are FORTIFIED roofs.

And we believe that number is only going to keep climbing.

With stronger installation standards, better protection against severe weather, potential insurance benefits, and programs helping homeowners offset some of the cost, we believe FORTIFIED is well on its way to becoming the industry standard for roofing in South Louisiana.

🏠 This Morning in Tchefuncte Estates Country Club!

We’re kicking off the day with a full roof replacement in the beautiful Tchefuncte Estates Country Club community!

This one is a great example of why having an experienced roofer involved before and during the insurance process can make such a difference.

I personally met with the homeowner and performed the initial roof inspection. After finding damage that I felt warranted an insurance claim, I recommended that the homeowner contact his insurance company. When the adjuster came out, I met with them on site, walked the roof, pointed out the damage, and helped make sure everything was properly documented.

The result: the roof was approved for a full replacement. ✅

Now our Legends crew is here this morning getting it done the right way!

We don’t just show up after a claim is approved and replace the roof. We’re there from the initial inspection, through the adjuster meeting, all the way to the final installation.

That hands-on involvement is a big part of The Legends Way.

CHEAPEST BID ≠ BEST VALUE 🏠

We recently had the opportunity to bid this standing seam metal roof. Ultimately, another contractor came in significantly lower and was awarded the project.

These photos were taken after the roof was completed.

What you’re seeing across the metal panels is called “oil canning” — the visible waviness or distortion in the flat areas of standing seam metal roofing.

Now, here’s something important: some degree of oil canning can occur on virtually any standing seam metal roof, and it doesn’t necessarily mean the roof will leak. But excessive oil canning can be influenced by several things — panel thickness and width, substrate preparation, panel fabrication and handling, fastening/clip installation, and whether the panels are able to properly expand and contract.

And that’s where the difference between bids can sometimes show up.

When Legends prices a metal roof, we’re not simply figuring out the cheapest way to put metal over your house. We’re considering the metal gauge, panel system, clips and fasteners, underlayment, flashing details, substrate condition, proper installation procedures and the experienced labor required to install it correctly.

Could we lower our prices by cutting some of those costs? Absolutely.

But then we wouldn’t be delivering a Legends roof.

We won’t claim that the most expensive contractor is always the best, either. Our advice is simply this:

When one roofing estimate is significantly cheaper than the others, ask WHY.

Compare the specifications. Compare the materials. Compare the installation methods. Compare the experience of the crews doing the work.

Because with roofing, you usually don’t get the opportunity to see the difference until after the job is finished.

At Legends Roofing, we’d rather explain why our price is what it is than apologize later for why the finished product isn’t what it should be.
