Paver walk around for a backyard porch in Abingdon, MD.

This was a borderless paver walkway with a full wrap around. We used stone dust for base layer and 3/4inch river round for infills. This was a job we were asked to do right before 4th of July. Let me tell you, the hottest day of the year was no joke to be setting pavers during.

The work:

- measured, marked, and cut out sod out for walkway (3-5” depth below grade)
- leveled foundation dirt in walkway cutout.
- hauled and filled stone dust (base material) into walkway
- smoothed and leveled stone dust with trowels while setting pavers at equal spacing
- hauled in and backfilled fresh soil up against path to create a smooth gradient from yard to walkway (borderless - no hard edge).
- hauled and filled 3/4inch river rounds between pavers
- excess river rounds moved underneath deck (ultimately, we revisited the customer with more river rounds and fully covered the underside of the deck with the rock).
- [customer] planted seed and laid straw on backfilled soil.

Installed a new ornamental garden bed alongside the driveway of a friend in Bel Air, MD.

This house was a recent purchase for a retiring couple. They had plenty of plants they wanted to transplant to the new house and wanted a garden bed installed beside the driveway. Beautiful turnout and I was blessed the following week with a picture from the owners with the bed full of mulch and their newly planted ornamentals!

The work:
- cut in 25ft by 4ft by 6inch deep bed with a tapered edge to match existing garden bed.
- filled newly cut bed with organic enriched topsoil. The first and second 2inch layers of soil were tamped for structure and stability. A final 1-2 inch layer of topsoil was lightly tamped to provide easier planting.
- cleaned up and took leftover dirt to the backyard for some additional garden beds.

Freshening a home front and back yard landscape.

The work:

In front garden beds:
(Left side bed/large bed):
- removed old flagstone, w**ded, removed dead bushes and debris, leveled soil, prepped and set new layout for and installed flagstone (reused), installed w**d barrier, mulched,

(Right side bed/medium long bed):
- removed old pavers leading to hose and plumbing access, w**ded, removed debris, leveled soil, prepped and set new layout for and installed pavers (reused), mulched.

Other items in front yard:
- removed poison ivy from trees in front yard.
- edged sidewalks and driveway.

In backyard:
This was a cool part of the project. The island of mulch with the bird bath in the backyard was a mound of dirt, overgrown with w**ds about waist high. I ended up digging it out and found a bunch of river stones which I repurposed into a clay packed mini retaining wall. This turned into a cool looking island which I mulched and purchased a bird bath for. The large stone was already there so it makes a perfect ornament to the already beautiful tree.

This is one of those jobs where I wish I took more pictures. A couple of bonus pics at the end for removal of an old wooden garden bed that rotted out and a 2 foot hole (!) that formed under the gutter, which we extended drainage of the spout for.

Reflecting on a job from this past summer - there is nothing more fulfilling and joyful then spending your day working with your hands and serving the Lord by serving others.

This job was clearing / pushing back a tree line from overgrown so a 72” mower could fit for maintenance and power could be restored to the electric fence. Years of overgrowth gone in a day. Trimming, cutting, w**d whacking.

Stump removal job. Four large stumps (5’ diameter) and one smaller stump (2’ diameter). We ground stumps, removed shavings, tamped in fill dirt (organic enriched soil) to grade, and planted seed with straw sheet coverings. Small tree was also removed (for the smaller stump) and fully cleared. Images below show before images, our process, the fallen tree, our fill dirt, and after images.
