As the heating season kicks in, so does heating-season risk, and a few simple habits keep your family safe and warm. Space heaters are wonderful and also a leading cause of home heating fires, almost always from the same avoidable mistakes. Give every heater at least three feet of clear space from anything that can burn, curtains, bedding, furniture, laundry. Plug it straight into a wall outlet, never a power strip or extension cord, which can overheat. Put it on a hard, level surface, never carpet or a tabletop. And turn it off when you leave the room or go to sleep, ideally using a model that shuts off if it tips. While you are at it, this is the season to test every smoke and carbon monoxide detector and replace old batteries, because heating problems and carbon monoxide are exactly why they exist. If an outlet feels warm, buzzes, or is scorched, stop using it and get it checked, that is a real warning sign. We handle detector installs, add outlets so you are not overloading circuits, and check the warm ones. Stay warm and stay safe this winter. βοΈ (325) 701-7946
