These gorgeous peonies are going into their third growing season and will be showing up in a few months. There are over 250 plants at the farm and a few more will be added this Spring. While we wait for them to bloom, here’s a few fun facts.
✨The peony is said to named after Paeon, who was a student of Asclepias, the Greek god of healing.❤️🩹 Asciepias was said to have been jealous of Paeon so Zeus turned him into a beautiful flower, the peony.
✨Peonies are a perennial that can live for over 100 years! A very smart investment for your garden!☀️
✨When the bud opens, it opens to three times its size.
✨The best stage to pick or cut a peony for longest vase life is when the bud is starting to open and feels like a squishy marshmallow. Don’t wait until the bloom is fully open.
✨The peony is the official state flower of Indiana.
✨Not all peonies have a fragrance.
✨Peonies have six flower forms: single, anemone, double, semi-double, bomb and Japanese.
I grow double, semi-double and bomb form peonies at the farm in colors of white, coral, light pink and fuchsia.
If I had to pick a favorite, I really like the light pink Sarah Bernhardt variety (last picture) for color, abundant blooms and fragrance! 💕
