COMPANY BACKGROUND
Farm Capital Uganda (FCU) is an agriculture investment financing company which enables
sustainable and profitable agribusinesses ventures with great growth potential across Uganda
to access the finances required from investors and financial institutions, and share the profits
with farmers in return. Access to finance is critical to agricultural and rural transformation in
Uganda but agriculture financing is termed as a “policy orphan” given how rare a policy
framework dedicated to it is and lack of coordination among stakeholders. Finance is a key enabler in developing profitable agriculture value chains and in addressing
issues of community mobilization, cooperatives development, production planning and
management, harvesting, processing and storage, marketing and sourcing logistics. Therefore,
FCU improving financial systems shall increase the efficiency of Uganda’s agriculture value
chains by lowering transaction costs. As such, Farm Capital Uganda (FCU) which aims at
coordinating interventions in development of the finance sector in Uganda is promoting
financing of the agriculture sector through Investors who comprise financial institutions and
private actors to help close the gap in Uganda1. Established in 2016, Farm Capital Uganda (FCU) is an Agriculture Finance Company which
addresses issues in enabling the business environment to result in more finance sustainability
for the agriculture sector in Uganda. Given numerous investment opportunities in Uganda’s
agriculture sector as well as many young people yearning to access long-term credit facilities
with less interest to develop agriculture ventures, FCU will liaise with investment
banks/financial institutions, investors from the urban middle class and Ugandans in the
diaspora to facilitate financing of agriculture value chains. FCU believes that the "access to agriculture finance” is a growing need changing according to
the upcoming risks and market" simply because access to finance especially for young people
and women involved in agriculture and the back bone of Uganda’s economy promotes
