Built From Scratch: A 3D Counter Stool Study 🎨
by Viz-Me archviz & 3d studio
Most renders you see online start with someone else's 3D model — pulled from a library, dropped into a scene. This one didn't.
This is the Nordic Oak Counter Stool, modeled entirely in-house — the kind of piece we build when a project calls for furniture that doesn't exist yet.
A render is only as convincing as the geometry underneath it — here's what that looks like before the finish goes on.
You can see it in the grey, untextured passes next to the final shots — that's the raw model, before any material touches it. Real proportions, joints that sit the way actual joinery would. The finish is the last five percent — the structure underneath is what actually took the work.
AI can already generate a rough 3D mesh from an image or a prompt. What it can't do is give you a professional model — the accurate proportions, the clean structure, the production-ready build a real project actually needs. That's why modeling is still its own craft, separate from rendering.
What went into building this stool:
📐 Modeled from a blank mesh, no shortcuts
🎨 Oak grain and linen weave, built for close-up realism
💎 Real-world scale, no guesswork
🛋️ Easy to reshape, recolor, or rebuild
🖥️ Works across any render engine or pipeline
✨ The same process behind our custom pieces
Where's the line between a picture of furniture and a real 3D object? Can you build with it, or only look at it?
