Native to Tanzania and much of East Africa, Mkongo is one of our most valuable indigenous hardwood trees. Renowned for its strength, longevity and beautiful timber, it is far more than a commercial species — it is a vital part of healthy forests and resilient landscapes.

A mature Mkongo provides deep shade, stores significant amounts of carbon and creates habitat for birds, insects and other wildlife. Its extensive root system helps stabilise soils, while its broad canopy contributes to cooler temperatures and healthier ecosystems.

As Tanzania continues to invest in reforestation, urban greening and climate resilience, indigenous species like Mkongo remind us that the best landscapes are built with trees that belong here.
