Reliability is easy when everything goes according to plan.

The real test is what happens when it doesn't.

For Question 4 of our client interview, I asked what his experience has been like working with Broomes' Lawn Care over the past six months.

One thing he highlighted was reliability.

Interestingly, he remembered the day both of my employees were unavailable and I showed up alone.

We were on his schedule.

So I went.

The crew changed that day.

The commitment didn't.

That's something I've learned about building trust with clients:

They don't only remember the beautiful lawn or the neatly pruned plants.

They remember the patterns.

Did you communicate?

Did you keep your word?

Did you show up when things became inconvenient?

Anyone can call themselves reliable.

Eventually, your actions have to prove it. 🌿

You can't tell a new client:

"Trust me."

Well... you can.

But those words don't mean much on Day 1. 😅

Trust is built when you say you'll be there—and you show up.

Then you do it again.

You listen.

You communicate.

You do what you said you would do.

And then you repeat that process over and over.

Eventually, something changes.

The client no longer has to wonder:

"Will they show up?"
"Will the job be done properly?"
"Do I need to follow up with them?"

They already know.

That's the part of trust we sometimes forget:

Trust isn't built through one great interaction. It's built through a pattern of consistent ones.

You cannot control what others think about you.

You cannot control what they say about you.

You cannot control their actions, their behaviour, or their opinions.

But you can control your response.

You can control your thoughts.

You can control your actions.

You can control the standards you live by.

The day you stop wasting energy trying to control other people—and put that energy into mastering yourself—is the day you discover a different kind of peace.

You don't need control over others. You need control over yourself.

That's true mastery. 🧘🏾‍♂️🌿

Free work doesn't buy loyalty. It buys more requests for free work.

One of our clients said he was looking for someone who was professional, knowledgeable and reliable.

Here's the interesting part...

I never had to tell him that we were any of those things.

He formed that opinion on his own.

Before becoming a client, he watched our content.

He saw how we worked.
He listened to how we explained things.
He observed how we approached problems.

Then, after hiring us, he saw another pattern:

We consistently showed up when we said we would.

There's a marketing lesson here.

Don't spend all your time telling people:

"I'm professional."
"I'm knowledgeable."
"I'm reliable."

Show them.

Create content that demonstrates what you know.

Then run your business in a way that confirms what your content promised.

Eventually, people will start using those words to describe you—without you ever having to use them yourself.

Your reputation is more powerful when your clients reach the conclusion before you say it. 🌿

I asked one of our clients a simple question:

"How did you first hear about Broomes' Lawn Care?"

His answer?

Online.

If you're a landscaper—or you provide any type of service—don't underestimate the importance of marketing your business online.

Your next client may already be searching for the service you provide.

But if you're not showing your work, sharing your knowledge and consistently putting your business in front of people...

How are they supposed to find you?

You don't need millions of followers.

You need the right people to know you exist.

This client found us online.

Today, we maintain his property regularly.

That's the power of marketing. 🌿

A few people have recently told me, "You look fit."

The interesting thing is—I don't go to a gym.

Three days a week, my son and I train at home for less than 30 minutes.

A pull-up bar. Some homemade push-up bars. A dumbbell. And a workout book.

Nothing fancy.

When I first started recording my workouts, there wasn't much I could do.

But I started where I was.

Then I added a rep. Then another. Then a little more weight. Then another set.

Monday. Wednesday. Friday.

Over time, those small improvements added up.

Sometimes we convince ourselves that we don't have enough time, enough equipment or the perfect circumstances to start.

You don't have to start big.

Start small. Keep a record. Progress gradually. Stay consistent.

Your future self will be glad you started. 💪🏾

There was a time when my biggest concern was simply getting the next landscaping job.

Today, I think differently.

I think about the type of clients we want.
The reputation attached to our name.
The standard of work we're willing to accept.
The jobs we're willing to turn down.
And the kind of company Broomes' Lawn Care will become.

We had already finished our client's property when this photo was taken. I was simply standing there observing the neighbourhood before we left.

But sometimes those quiet moments give you time to think about the bigger picture.

I'm not just trying to stay busy.

I'm trying to build something.
