CO-LAB Design Office is an award winning architecture and design studio providing innovative sustainable design solutions that enrich our everyday interactions with the natural and built environments. With a global range and international experience from some of the leading architecture/design firms in the world, CO-LAB offers highly customized solutions across a range of project types and scales

including: residential, hospitality, cultural, commercial, urban design, interior design, product design and conceptualization. CO-LAB was founded by Joshua Beck and Joana Gomes in 2010. Joshua Beck received a Masters in Architecture from UC Berkeley in 2004 and a Bachelors of Environmental Design from CU Boulder in 1996. Joshua has over 14 years of experience in the combined fields of architecture and construction. He worked for five years as an Architect and Project Leader at Rem Koolhaas’s Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) in Rotterdam, NL. Most recently, Joshua worked Michael Kovac Architects where he was leading several high end residential projects. Joshua is also a trained wooden boat builder and skilled craftsman. Joana Gomes graduated in architecture from Oporto University (FAUP) in 2006 and immediately joined MVRDV with Winy Maas where she worked as an architect for four years. Joana joined FREE - Fernando Romero in 2009 as the Design Director of the Los Angeles office. In 2010 Joana was appointed design director in FREE’s main office in Mexico City, where she worked until 2013.

Our design studio has a workshop where we design and experiment with different materials and finishing techniques. It is a crucial part of our process. We also design and fabricate furniture and accessories, such as lights and decorations.
Villa Petricor’s dining table was designed in house and fabricated on-site directly. The dining chairs were prototyped in our workshop and delivered to an artisanal carpenter for fabrication. The light features are fabricated directly in our studio.
