Transformation of primary school into dental practice

An elementary school becomes a dental practice: a remarkable transformation by BURO/S ARCHITECTS 
In the small town of Echt in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands, BURO/S ARCHITECTS converted an old elementary school from the 1960s into a modern and sustainably built dental practice. 
The client wanted a practice with plenty of space for both patients and employees, while the main structure had to be kept intact as much as possible. An additional challenge was to reconcile their wish for optimal transparency and openness with the patients’ need for privacy. BURO/S ARCHITECTS’ integral design marries a new lay-out with smart use of glass and daylight to create an efficient and future proof practice, dedicated to excellent dental care.

OFFICES BY FORUM ADVAITA IN CHANDIGRAH INDIA

The idea behind this small 700 sft Office Interiors at India Trade Tower , New Chandigarh is to create an experience of walking through a Mondrians Art work.The objective was to create multiple spaces for a conference room,workstations , pantry and a personal cabin and yet have a transparency within the larger volume, We positioned tinted laminated glasses within the space in such a way that we get only notional enclosures without doors .



A suggested space which allows for free circulation all around . To retain the ephemerality of the colored planes we kept the peripheral pallatte very neutral and understated . Black matt finished flooring created a diffused reflection of the colored planes and adds a layer to the abstraction . exposed Cement board ceiling to conceal the services above , Hammer finished grey marble cladding on the walls offers a very rustic experience . The south facing office space offers abundance of natural light and adds vibrancy through the colored planes

Beyond Spaces as Architects

A’DAM stands for Amsterdam Dance And Music. The recently renovated 60s icon, located on the banks of the IJ river, is home to several nightclubs and leading international music companies including Massive Music, Wink, ID&T, Gibson and now Sony Music Entertainment.
We freed the magnificent views from obstruction by placing enclosed functions near the core of the floor plan, also allowing the concrete facade to claim the spotlight. A homage to the experience of music, the core resembles the inside of an amplifier, the stairs double as a bar, and the vinyl boardroom table transforms to a DJ-booth. Paying special attention to the lighting system, LED strips placed on the grid ceiling illuminate the acoustic spray, creating a hyper-diffuse light effect, eliminating shadows.
While in the music industry, work and play are very much intertwined, the design seeks to separate the two and give each their own space. This way, one can either be fully focussed at work or fully relaxed at play. We emphasised this division through a radical material palette: grey and green, and nothing in between.

Programmatically, the core of the site unifies and divides the layout into two distinctive activity zones resonating vertically and horizontally through the building. It houses a double height living space and stairwell. From here, activities radiate towards the western and eastern wings on either side of the triangular layout. The first floor accommodates a kitchen, dining and spill out terrace towards the eastern wing, while the western wing accommodates a bedroom with an attached bath. The concept resonates to the second floor layout as well. Individual bed and bath spaces are accommodated in both wings that eventually converge at a pedestrian bridge at the core. The terrace at the third floor level, opens up significantly creating a scenic vantage point to the generously canopied treelines of the city. It accommodates an enclosed terrace lounge at the core, surrounded by open terraces along its periphery. A guest bed and bath sits at the eastern wing of the terrace layout.

Taking advantage of the sharp angled plot, the building towers in a defensive fashion to fight against the paraphernalia of the imposing city fabric. Its elevational profile has an armor-like appeal, further accentuated with a large corten steel sheeting along the northern facade. It conceals all activities within the three-sided fortification, and showcases a sudden bout of exposure at the terrace of the building. The construction appears to levitate at different horizontal planes adding a certain depth to the facade surfaces. The primary bulk is lifted off the street level translating into a stilt parking at ground level. Whilst the terrace level parasol manifests a sharp angled concrete slab, giving it a sense of finesse.

‘Cloaked’ is an abode design intervention, monolithically pitched into a tightly knit urban setting. It is enclosed on all sides by an overpowering city fabric. The design was incorporated into a challenging triangular site profile with acute angles at two of its corners. Whilst two of its edges faces vehicular roads, an edifice engulfs its third. The western corner manifests the highest point on site, surrounded by running pavements and roads along its periphery. The terrain gradually slopes down along it’s northern edge from west to east.

We wanted to create an open arrangement between front and back of house, the ability to fully immerse visitors into our work environment. The reception area as a ‘hospitality moment’ (café/bar feel), disarming but inviting for visitors, active and social, but also high impact and theatrical. A big main meeting room and numerous other meeting options for smaller private and informal meetings. Pin boards running the length of the office are essential to the team’s design process, encouraging dialogue and acting as a communication mechanism to the broader team. Desks have minimal screening to promote ‘cross desk’ communication for collaborative purposes. Textural furniture choices such as marble meeting table paired with cane-backed chairs showcase unique design yet are perfectly suited to both formal and casual meetings in a creative and collaborative environment.The workshop is a unique feature of our office which celebrates bespoke hand-crafted design and embodies the directors motivation to ‘create’ and test ideas.

Carve a volume to define a void.
The project starts with an urban singularity that allows locating the house attached to one of its boundaries. The implementation of the proposal already starts from the advantage of knowing the location of its neighbors and is positioned on its opposite side in order to achieve clearer views and more fluid ventilation.
From the street, a barrier crowned with concrete blocks provides privacity to the interior and allows to visualize the traces of the white volumen which shapes the house.
Its footprint on the ground floor is deformed to embrace a patio that gives meaning to each of its rooms. This patio serves as the center and articulator of the activity on the ground floor, in which the day area is located. Besides, it allows to maximize its facade length to extend its relationship with the outside, undoing the traditional limits and thus establishing a new link with it.The successive transitions between interior and exterior allow a fluid movement around the plot and an attractive relationship between the void and the sculpted body, which reduces the scale of the exterior and interior spaces of the house.

The height of style in China is widely considered to be during the 1920s, a period of British occupancy that gave birth to an amalgam of Oriental and Occidental cultures. During this era, Chinese interior design architecture and fashion took the influence of modern, shapely silhouettes and simpler patterns. This period of style is chosen as the concept behind Sun Tung Lok’s design, where elegance is delivered through the subtle mixture of details.
