The District Hostel Ekkamai เกิดขึ้นได้จากความตั้งใจที่จะปรับเปลี่ยนพื้นที่ใช้สอยภายในอาคารที่มีลักษณะหน้าแคบลึกซึ่งแต่เดิมมีฟังก์ชั่นเป็นสำนักงานให้กลายเป็นโฮสเทลใจกลางเมือง
โดยโปรเจคนี้ทางเจ้าของมีโจทย์ให้โฮสเทลแห่งนี้บรรยากาศเป็นกันเองและดูแลรักษาง่ายทางผู้ออกแบบจึงตั้งใจที่ทำให้โฮสเทลมีเอกลักษณ์ไม่เหมือนใครและมีบรรยากาศที่ผ่อนคลายไปพร้อมกัน จึงเลือกใช้วัสดุที่หาได้ง่าย คุ้นตาและคุมงบได้ดี เช่น คอนกรีตขัดมัน ลามิเนตลายไม้ สแตนเลส และ บล็อคแก้ว ผสานกับพื้นที่ที่เกิดจากสัดส่วนของรูปทรงเรขาคณิต ทำให้เกิดความแปลกใหม่ของพื้นที่ใช้งานในโฮสเทลแห่งนี้ และอีกหนึ่ง ความตั้งใจของงานนี้คือเรื่องของแสง ที่จะเลือกใช้แสงที่ให้โทนอบอุ่นผสมผสานกับแสงธรรมชาติที่ผู้ออกแบบพยายามที่จะนำเข้ามาในทุกๆพื้นที่ของโฮสเทลผ่านบล็อคแก้ว ซึ่งในแต่ละพื้นที่ก็จะมีการเลือกใช้บล็อคแก้วที่มีลวดลายที่แตกต่างกัน โดยจะมีผลต่อเอฟเฟกต์ของแสงที่ออกมา ทำให้ผู้เข้าพักได้รับประสบการณ์และมิติของแสงที่แตกต่างกันผ่านแต่ละพื้นที่ของโฮสเทล
The District Hostel Ekkamai was conceived as a transformation of a narrow and deep-plan building, originally used as an office, into a centrally located urban hostel.
The client’s brief called for a space that feels welcoming, easy to maintain, and approachable. In response, the design aims to create a unique identity while maintaining a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. A selection of familiar, cost-effective materials was used to achieve both practicality and character, including polished concrete, wood-pattern laminates, stainless steel, and glass blocks. These materials are combined with spatial compositions derived from geometric proportions, introducing a sense of novelty within the hostel’s layout. Another intention of this project is related to light. Warm artificial lighting is carefully balanced with natural light, which is brought into the space through the use of glass blocks. Different patterns of glass blocks are applied across various areas, creating distinct light effects and atmospheres. This approach allows guests to experience varying qualities and dimensions of light as they move through the hostel.
