Barn Moosi School - The Build Skills Lab & Landscape
This non-profit project marks another collaboration between The Build Foundation, Chef Care Foundation, VVA (Vin Varavarn Architects), and the landscape architecture team Shma Soen, to redesign and renovate Barn Moosi School in Nakhon Ratchasima Province.
In this phase, the scope includes the design and construction of The Build Skills Lab, a new learning facility focused on culinary education for students to develop practical skills for future careers; a new student restroom building; and the improvement of shared landscape areas to create a cohesive and functional environment.
The Build Skills Lab is designed to provide a hygienic, safe, and practical environment for cooking education. The building is divided into an indoor kitchen and a semi-outdoor area, which supports beverage-making lessons, serves as a relaxation space for students and teachers, and can be adapted into a multipurpose area for other activities.
The adjacent open dirt yard has been redesigned to work seamlessly with The Build Skills Lab while preserving all existing trees. This transformation creates a functional and welcoming courtyard that students can actively use.
The nearby restroom building has been completely redesigned to replace the deteriorated existing facility. The new design emphasizes cleanliness, safety, and clear spatial organization. Its new placement allows more efficient use of surrounding areas, while a grey concrete block wall separates the restroom from the garden, enhancing privacy and spatial definition.
Additionally, the central garden area has been redesigned as an outdoor learning landscape, preserving all mature trees. The landscape architects introduced new hardscape elements and walkways using simple concrete blocks that are easily sourced locally. The design prioritizes durability, low maintenance, and practical use by both students and teachers.
